I am trying to read a book on socio-politics and government structure that has lost me because I got to 5+ pages about why the Lebanese state has issues (as an example of their thesis) and brings up destabilizing events in 1975-1989 without mentioning Israel.

Another neighbor was kidnapped by ICE in white center this morning and there's such little concern about this overwhelming wave of fascism happening from the the legacy press, it makes me want to scream

It's kind of wild that the local "establishment" press and centrist political leadership are obsessed with normal mayoral acts when they could be concerned about: - climate change - traffic violence - housing costs - ICE/CBP snatching neighbors - 1000+ federal things that undermine good governance.

My unpopular (IRL) opinion is that there was little to nothing Wilson could do around the Seattle Center shootings. It was over in a short time, not an ongoing disaster that needed management. As Erica points out further down, it was a police matter that was bungled by Barnes

A very cool thing: kiddo wants her own print copies of a book series she loves that she had checked out from school library. So I order from Elliott Bay Books and when they come in we can take light rail together to pickup!

None of these folks batted an eye when Barnes brought a coterie of cronies and created new positions for them, costing the city at least $1 million a year. Nor did I see any outrage when he and an assistant chief scooped up $50,000 "recruitment" bonuses explicitly created for rank and file officers.

The mayor trusted SPD do its job communicating promptly re mass shooting, it didn’t, the chief broke the camel’s back w cumulative consequences of absenteeism & inability to perform a basic function of the job, i.e., interacting with the media, she made the correct and quick decision to fire him.

I should have kept count but in my bike down MtS trail to LWB to Seward and return, I had to have passed 500+ if not many more people. Hard to tell when trying to keep moving (brompton exercise!) but I rarely went more than a hundred feet without passing 1 or more folks or being passed myself.

It would be nice if it was all year, I think people would use it. Rainy day rides away from traffic are fun.

If opposition to making LWB open to all was about driving a car for pleasure, then the opposition would have jumped on this idea. Slow, windows down possible driving one way on LWB wouldn't restricy any access (many parallel and intersecting streets!) and would be more pleasant for all.

Also, if they really just want a pleasure drive option along Lake Washington Boulevard 24/7/365, they could support the idea of converting half the street into an accessible trail for all, and leaving the other half as a one way vehicle lane. Not holding my breath for their endorsement...
