Rode past the eco counter on fifth street cycletrack this morning. 1798 bikes counted in under 9hrs. If every one of those people riding bikes was instead in an SUV, the line of cars would be almost 9 km long. People riding bikes don't cause traffic, cars cause traffic. Someone tell Dreeshen, k?

Back in 2020 #yyccc approved a Stage 1 plan for #greenlineyyc with construction to be segmented. This plan was, and remains, the best path forward. Significant design work is already done. If Mayor @jeromyyyc.bsky.social feels the Feds will partner to build downtown, let's build to 16th Ave N

Elevated up 2 St isn't pretty or perfect but it fulfills the most basic function of transit: get people to where they need to go. From end to end #greenlineyyc is only 46 km. Mayor @jeromyyyc.bsky.social wants #yyc to be the city that builds. Will #yyccc rise to the challenge?

I’ve been thinking about Canada’s intention to become more economically independent from the United States, and to connect more with Europe. We should do the same thing with our city-building. Our city-building has always been too influenced by the U.S, especially with car dependency. Thoughts?

This recent study of mode share (the % share of transportation trips that are by car, transit, walking, biking etc) relative to city size and income levels in almost 800 cities in 61 countries. Rescinding the RCG base zone will not only put affordability and construction jobs at risk, it threatens transit funding as well. $860 million on the table potentially lost because of bad policy and ideology over substance.
@lrtonthegreen.bsky.social · 6mo agoToday #yyccc was told that a full repeal of blanket rezoning puts over $800 million in federal funding at risk, including $251 million in transit funding. In addition, it will jeopardize #yyc being awarded its share of $20 billion in transit funding. We quite literally can't afford to be NIMBYs.

Calgary is facing some existential challenges and unfortunately, due to mistakes of admin and a failure of leadership across the board, we are not likely to meet those challenges. Ideology and an outdated growth model are going to further strain resources and our rapidly aging infrastructure.
