So I was talking to a midwife friend this morning and y’all wanna hear something insane? The 36 week pregnancy scan, to measure baby for birth outcomes and which is usually used to justify labour induction, is based on one (1) study of 360 upper middle class American white women

One of the things El-Sayed said that I think is absolutely right is that you need hundreds of little targeted bills like the “Stop Crap in Lettuce” bill and force Trump to veto them. So that people understand what exactly is happening as it happens.

Been thinking about this—substance matters but maybe the perceived momentum matters even more. Like, whether you lean more towards accountability or oversight or ___, the goal should be endless activity. Show the country that this Congress is On The Case(s). Democrats are the Do-Something Party.

Speaker Ayanna Pressley is where I'm at. The Politics Knowers (aka we still post MattY takes even though we know he's an idiot) will say the Speaker is a Vote Counter and the job is not where the work is done. I say Speaker should represent the mood of the party to the country and it ain't Hakeem

We got a New Dem party we need a New Dem speaker. Don't go back to the well for brackish water that will give you the squirts

Here in New Hampshire, the GOP were already testing out “the Dems want to build data centers in your neighborhood” talking points during the election If the Dems flip on this issue, they may lose in 2028 rather than gain. Swing voters will flip on them.

piggybacking on this - maybe in 2026-7 the role of the speaker is different than it was 10, 20, 30 years ago. in the era of ubiquitous communications, a speaker of the house is no longer just a vote counter. that person should be a communicator and pelosi was bad at it and so is jeffries.

A.R. Moxon@juliusgoat.bsky.social · 7h ago

“You don’t understand what a Speaker of the House does” no I think YOU don’t understand that coming out 12 hours after a historic win and trying to slow the momentum of the movement on behalf of the opposition is automatically disqualifying for any would-be leader of that movement.

“When Susan Gilbreath asked to have the publication ban removed on her name at the sentencing of the ex-boyfriend who violently sexually assaulted her, the judge said it felt “very unfair.” To Gilbreath’s attacker.” www.thestar.com/news/gta/nam...

Naming your attacker would be ‘unfair,’ Toronto judge tells sex assault victim before handing down ‘very low’ sentence

Sex assault victim Susan Gilbreath was in disbelief — “Are we protecting the victim? Or are we protecting the perpetrator?”

I was going to just ignore this one but seeing that it's cowritten by a ***sustainability academic*** at a university, telling this stuff *to students* (!!) I gotta go through each of the misrepresentations, errors and big-tech talking point / greenwashing tropes here: archive.ph/ptuvm

you'd think that given the election results, mainstream outlets might look for Black columnists from the south or Hispanic columnists from the southwest to explain the outcomes, rather than looking for the same conservative white men who they've been using as go tos for the past decade.

this is genuinely wild. The Free Press has claimed across several platforms that Abdul El-Sayed “gave his victory speech in Arabic.” The basis for this is that El-Sayed said (1) his name, and (2) three sporadic Arabic words in different contexts: inshallah, alhamdulillah, and habibi.

The owner of Paramount, Warner, CNN, CBS, etc. gave these racist fake journalists $150 million to lay the groundwork for further violence against minority groups in the US:

@TheFP
Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed gave his victory speech in
Arabic last night. Rep. Ilhan Omar addressed her victory
party in Somali.
And this morning, Iran's supreme leader posted that
America's collapse "has accelerated."
What should we make of these acceptance speeches?

Susan Collins didn't give a concession speech but she did tell the NYT that people in Maine were too stupid to understand what kind of politician she is. Perfect sendoff for one of the most arrogant and self-important people in the Senate

OKAY a short thread on data centre flexibility bringing a few disparate things and a few new things together that I've been working on and thinking about #1: in our recent NVIDIA report we (for the first time!) raised the Q of whether a data centre flexing output **actually helps climate action**

NVIDIA'S AI Climate hoax

What does the real climate footprint of the biggest company on the planet look like? It's a good question, but here's a better one: why don't we already know the answer?

The level of righteous petty in this race is aspirational. Colom decided to run to unseat Cindy Hyde-Smith after she blocked him from becoming a federal judge due to his stance on trans rights. The independent in the race, Ty Pinkins, stayed in the race exclusively to pull votes from Hyde-Smith.
