This is one big worry around AI: capitalism never uses technology advances to let us work *less*, it just packs *more* work into the same time / onto the same people An AI "perfectly" automating the low-stakes, easier tasks just turns my job into an unbroken stream of high-stakes, demanding tasks 😱

if it ever works it's going to be simply burning out developers at 10x speed popping them out like assault rifle rounds red hot and spent one a week

I’m really excited to be attending DiGRA next week, for the first time ever! Heather Kelley and I are running a level design workshop on Wednesday morning… If you happen to be in Dublin tonight, reach out and let’s get together!

My friend and former student Nickey Olson just released his game ‘Richard’ on Steam! It’s a brilliant interactive narrative setting Shakespeare’s Richard III against a background of high school drama, with excellent design and astonishing art. Check it out! store.steampowered.com/app/3635830/...

I think maybe my job now is just repeatedly saying this? And eg: you can also borrow a load of audiobooks on your phone from local libraries. Not just classics! Brand new buzzy novels and non fiction! I have Yesteryear and Calculation of Volume and Things In Nature Merely Grow right now.

every time I say this, someone didn't know: you can get the NYRB, the New Yorker, the LRB, Paris Review, The Spectator (weirdly not New Statesman), The Week, both French & Italian Vogue & New Scientist among many many other magazines FREE via the Libby app from your local library?

Really good interview IMO. I nodded vigorously in agreement with Thomson here in particular, on the virtues of letting games go before we exhaust them of content completely: “I think that one of the things that games are great at is living large in our imaginations.”

It's a valid way to play games. But on the other hand, I do want to push back against it, because I think that some of my best experiences with games as a player have been when I have left them, not necessarily unfinished, but leaving large aspects of them unexplored. I think that by doing that, the game can occupy your imagination in a far greater capacity than if you explore every single nook and cranny, you see exactly everything the game had to offer. I think that one of the things that games are great at is living large in our imaginations.
