I've mentioned in the past that I sponsored a local female race car driver and put pro-library messages on the car. They did a "pit party" where kids could come through, see the cars, etc. Andrea got book stickers made so all the kids could sign her car. Truly some of my best library outreach work.

Hood of a white stock car. It has a woman in a purple superhero outfit with a cape flapping. The car reads NO BOUNDARIES. NO LIMITS. KNOW YOUR LIBRARY. There are many small stickers that look like open books on it which are signed by kids.Back of a white stock car used for racing. It says BURN RUBBER NOT BOOKS. 13. Hence our dismal conclusion: rather than finding that LLMs free us to do a better job of what we were doing before they came along, they shift scientific incentives (and the playing field of academic competition) in ways that compel us to do more and more, faster and faster, less and less well.

this is an awesome milestone. ❤️ we should be doing more to sponsor each other 🫂 ... and on that note ... 👉 if you can guess† to two significant digits how much I've sponsored (via GH) over the last 6½ years, I'll sponsor a developer of your choice a non-negligible amount †one guess allowed

Chinese and Japanese buildings often don't have a 4th floor, because of the negative associations with the number 4. Can we make it so that all peer-reviewed responses only have reviewers 1, 3, and 4? Everyone would be happier.

I'm sure someone smarter has already proposed this, but we need a supercharged Right to Repair 2.0. If companies won't support products, they must release the software to open source. If they don't sell replacement parts, they must facilitate 3rd party efforts (share technical plans).
