I'm not sure folks have realized just how crazy the second half of 2026 and 2027 will be for global temperatures – on the back of a record-smashing El Niño event. Here is my latest estimate of where both years will end up compared to global temperatures since 1850.

I looked up “anthropogenic warming” and it said “fossil fueled.”
Something that really bugs me about this conversation: it rests on the conceit that Obama/Biden’s (weak) efforts to rein in fossil fuels were equivalent to Trump’s war on renewables. A false equivalency, to be sure, but one obnoxiously in service of federal policy that would entrench fossil fuels.

Kinda wild that worker heat protections do not yet exist. And I say this as someone who worked in construction for several years back before anthropogenic warming was a tangible, ever present reality. There is an urgent need for New Mexico’s next governor to push this over the finish line.

Just shrugging and saying 'whatever, just power it clean' (or way worse: shrugging and saying 'it'll be clean no matter what because renewables are so cheap and infinite') ignores the fundamental, systemic and inherent bias in this industry towards preferring fossil fuels, namely gas, to meet demand
The major problem with this breezily depoliticised headspace is that it is specifically the speed, scale and geographic concentration of data centre demand growth that tends to make it specifically consume fossil fuels over renewable energy
