The first new Mini rolled off the production line in Oxford 25 years ago today, 26 April 2001. Since then, 4.7m examples of the car have been built at the former Morris Motors site in Cowley. It’s one of two 2026 anniversaries at the plant, founded 100 years ago as Pressed Steel Company Ltd.

President Zelenskyy: More than ten countries have already turned to us for support in defending against Iranian Shahed drones. "These are, in fact, the same attack drones that the Iranian regime supplied to Russia and trained Russians to use against the civilian population of Ukraine."

“Everyone involved pretends they had absolutely no idea.” Ian Hislop, Private Eye’s editor, appeared on Tonight with Andrew Marr to discuss the Epstein files, and the cover the Eye ran in reference to the paedophile sex trafficker all the way back in 2011.

Rhyme to remember the length of the months: 30 days hath September, April, June and November. All the rest have 31, except January, which has 896.

Public libraries should grow in number and size in proportion to an area's population. New housing is great but only if there's also a public lending library with a good stock of books, journals, music, and tools. And librarians. It's not a library without librarians.

One year since I posted this. One year since everybody treated it like a joke. One year of watching my back. Tell me: have you seen much of Harry Styles this past year? Tim Davie's gone a bit quiet too, hasn't he?

A comic for the Guardian by Stephen Collins on New Years Eve 2024. Script as follows:

1
THE SCENE: is BBC Television centre or wherever that is these days. HARRY STYLES is getting out of a limo to enter a studio. An autograph-hunting FAN accosts him.

Also, a DATE STAMP appears ‘on screen’, like it used to do in the X-files, reading:

OCTOBER, 2024: Maidstone Studios, England

FAN 1:
That’s Harry Styles!

FAN 2 [Approaching Harry]:
Can I have a selfie, Harry?

2
FAN:
What are you doing at Maidstone Studios on this finbe day in mid October, Harry?

3
HARRY STYLES:
Why, I’ve come here in mid-October to record ‘Jools Holland’s New Year Hoote-‘

4
*FSHW*
[Harry Styles is suddenly vaporised by a LASER BEAM]

5
[We see the culprit; a hi tech flying DRONE has zapped Mr Styles to death. The drone has a camera eye on the front of it]

6
[Cut to: JOOLS HOLLAND in his Hootenanny lair, watching a screen which has just alerted him to the elimination of Styles]

[Legend on screen]:
ARTIST ELIMINATED

HOLLAND:
Goddamn it

7
HOLLAND:
Why can’t they keep their mouths SHUT?

8
HOLLAND:
Tim Davie!

TIM DAVIE [Director General of the BBC]:
Y-yes Jools?

HOLLAND:
Who’ve we got left for this year?

10
TIM DAVIE:
The Boomtown Rats, one of Sister Sledge and Marc Almond

HOLLAND:
Almond *again*?

11
TIM DAVIE:
We’re running out of artists to call, sir…

M-must we keep killing… so many…?

HOLLAND:
You know the rules, Davie. The secret of the Hootenanny must be protected at all costs. All who divulge it…

12
HOLLAND [close up on his evil face, eye twitching]:
Must be eliminated

I’ve been eating chicken for decades and oddly I never thought “Ohh I think this would taste soooo much better if only it had hints of swimming pool water to it” 🤷🏼‍♂️ So no.. I don’t want fecking chlorine in my chicken, Trump and his cabal can shoved it up their combined arses❗️

Oh excellent news. Brexit sovereignty strikes again. ‘Global’ Little Britain gets to plead with foreign powers not to screw us over. And foreign powers say no. We will be doing this shit for years. What an idiotically avoidable waste of our time and resources. www.farminguk.com/news/chlorin...
