I am proud to be endorsed by Ward 2 Council Minority Leader, @robin4mpls.bsky.social! Robin has been an essential partner in fighting for local policies that let our families stay housed and safe.

My objection was not only about words. The Notice of Funding Opportunity for this program explicitly states the program’s statutory purpose and program goals in terms of investigating crimes committed by “illegal aliens” … 1/ www.startribune.com/minneapolis-...
Minneapolis council approves gun-crime grant despite some concerns over ‘illegal aliens’ language
Council Member Jason Chavez spoke passionately against applying for the $300,000 federal grant because of references to “criminal illegal aliens” in the government’s notice about the funding.

”Minneapolis provides the clearest example. From the large park encampments that emerged during the pandemic to the high-profile closure of Camp Nenookaasi and subsequent citywide enforcement efforts, officials have repeatedly declared victory after encampments disappeared from public view.”

Great to join @eastbankmpls.bsky.social last week to talk about pedestrian lighting, late night safety in Dinkytown, and local land use! Thank you to EBNP for consistently hosting meetings that focus on community needs and bringing together neighbors to build a vision for a better Minneapolis!
Hey y’all - it’s hot out and @robin4mpls.bsky.social wants you to do two things: 1) Stay hydrated. 2) And vote for @ilhanmn.bsky.social by August 11th We got 13 days left and all the info you need to vote at ilhanomar.com/vote
Our city is reeling from mass shootings and gun violence this past weekend. I want you to know that the City takes this very seriously. My colleagues and I are taking steps to help ensure all of our neighborhoods are safer.
Keeping families in their homes is common sense. St. Paul’s temporary 60 day pre-eviction notice resulted in a 69% decrease in evictions compared to the June 2023-2025 average. Meanwhile, Minneapolis saw evictions rise 14% over the same time period after Frey vetoed our pre-eviction notice.

Immigration services misspelled his name. Then Minneapolis fired him.
The termination of Public Works employee Darley Herrera has driven a wedge between city hall and the Laborers Union.

Breaks my heart for Minneapolis that this politically expedient & baseless message is being made by some leaders. Officers showed up under a minute. No evidence that drones would have prevented this What would have reduced harm & led to prevention & is evidence backed is COMPREHENSIVE GUN CONTROL.
Move over, police horses. Every big crime from now on is an opportunity for the mayor to complain about a lack of 911 drones.
Congratulations to my friend and policy aide Celeste on her marriage! Great to celebrate with you and our community this weekend.
In 2020, Mayor Frey blamed the MPD contract as an "nearly impenetrable barrier" to reining in a rogue dept. Yet during my time on City Council, two MPD contracts both failed to include any meaningful reforms while massively increasing MPD's budget.
I was proud to join my colleagues on the Minneapolis City Council in opposing the Skydio Pilot Program today. 1/ www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...
Minneapolis City Council rejects police drone contract with controversial Skydio
Opponents to the proposal filled an overflow room at the Minneapolis City Council meeting.

linea palmisano says drones can bring NARCAN to people having an overdose i think if minneapolis wants drones to help, we should give them to the fire department, not the cops
Today I voted against contracting with the drone company Skydio and I was proud the City Council voted down working with a company that contracts with ICE. Metro Surge was a test of our constitutional rights. Opening up the door to further erosions of our civil liberties would be a massive mistake.
Last week Minneapolis Director of Public Works Tim Sexton joined me and my staff for an on-the-ground tour of a few intersections in Seward where neighbors have been organizing for safer streets so that Director Sexton could hear from directly impacted residents about the need for traffic calming.
Yet another frightening example of why we need a full ban on data centers in Minneapolis: Wyoming officials say Meta data center is responsible for contaminating its water system with a rare bacterium.

Today! If you can't attend in person, sign the petition! Minneapolis does not need flying cop cameras!
A pilot program has been proposed to send drones from a military contractor for surveillance over N MPLS & later expand across the city. This will cost $30mil & expose us to major risks to privacy& civil liberties Please sign a petition against this & speak against it July 8 @city hall, 1:30pm
Every single person in Minneapolis deserves to be safe. That looks like data-driven strategies we know are successful like Behavioral Crisis Response--not yet more gadgets for MPD to surveil our communities. Thank you to everyone who showed up to testify against MPD's proposed use of Skydio drones.
Minneapolis police drone debate sparks privacy concerns
Minneapolis police want to use drones to respond to 911 calls, but residents are concerned about invasion of privacy.

"Robotaxis could be turning into robocops." Minneapolis does not need vigilante surveillance by big tech. If Waymo can do this to some teenagers, they can do this to you or any of your neighbors. A failure to regulate Waymo means no safeguards to ensure Waymo isn't handing people over to ICE.
Waymo reports teen riders for bad behavior and delivers them to the police
Two 15-year-olds drinking alcohol and shooting toy guns in the back of a Waymo were caught by police after the vehicle contacted law enforcement.

Let me be very clear, this approach will criminalize homelessness, criminalize those struggling with addiction, and will worsen people’s life outcomes by giving them a criminal record that follows them for years. Our community has told us what it actually needs. 2/

Yesterday, the Supreme Court continued their attacks on our trans community. I am grateful that our trans youth in Minnesota will continue to be protected under our state laws, but I’m angry that trans kids outside our safe haven won’t have those same rights.
Another Democratic Socialist is going to Congress! Congratulations to DSA member @melatkirosco.bsky.social! Congresswoman Kiros will take the fight for a better world to D.C: to Abolish ICE, free Palestine, and win Universal Childcare and Medicare for All.
Trans lives matter. Trans people will always be here. I’m sending a ton of love to every trans person. 🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️ I’m sickened to see the deliberate, coordinated, & federal assault on the lives of trans people. The SCOTUS ruled 6-3 to uphold state bans on trans athletes, but it doesn’t require them. 1/
I also want to shoutout my colleague @robin4mpls.bsky.social for sharing that she has faced similar mental health struggles and speaking out in her newsletter. I thank her for being solidarity with us and I stand in full solidarity with her. ❤️
Like millions of Americans, I work to manage my mental health daily. I’ve long ignored my need for more help. That’s why I’m sharing some personal news. I’m taking a leave from the City for a month to get help at a rigorous outpatient program for clinical depression and anxiety.
Council Majority Leader Chughtai works tirelessly serving her constituents, keeping our neighbors safe, and fighting for our values. I’m proud of my colleague and friend for taking a step away to care for her mental health.
