BBC Three is this week airing the 1998 documentary The Cruise (starring Jane McDonald) Yes, that’s right. BBC Three.

The RNLI is the closest you will ever get to actual Batman. When rescue is visibly, viscerally, obviously impossible; when the water is a smothering, thundering black wall and the wind is screaming straight from Hell; when you are absolutely going to die: someone’s hand pulls you out and you don’t.

"Don't play the butter notes" suggests that the best advice is the advice comes from someone you really respect, so you take it seriously, but you have no idea what it means, so it forces you to make a radical interpretation that reveals something in yourself. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rerb...

Whoever decided to promote Coyote vs Acme by letting Wile E do an AMA using only signs deserves all the praise.

I had an experience like this at Blackpool Sea Life Centre. Best bit of that holiday was watching a man with a butterfly net slowly stretching over an open shark tank trying to retrieve a pigeon in the rafters.
One time I was working in the gallery of Duke Humfrey’s and a bat flew by and I had no idea what to do and didn’t want to leave my desk so I @‘d the Bodleian and ten minutes later I saw a porter sprint past, out of breath, with a butterfly net
For those in the UK, Sing Sing (2023) is on iPlayer, The Princess Bride (1987) has just been added to ITVX, and whatever 4OD is called now has got Robot Dreams (2023). All of which are brilliant ways to calm down after that fright we all got earlier.
This is wonderful - if you need cheering up then this is a real tonic. ordinaryabundance.com

I found this fascinating. I don't think I've ever seen a Museum publicly list the costs of an exhibition before. www.artnews.com/art-in-ameri... - It's actually super helpful for people to see what it takes.

You don't often see a ladder as quality as this, lads. Drink it in.
Today is #SharkAwarenessDay. We don't have any sharks in the collection but we do have this absolutely enormous 36-foot ladder, which is so long that we have to display it on its side.
There's a part in the book "Careless People" where the author beats Zuck at Settlers of Catan, and he is absolutely wrecked by it. Someone pulls her aside to explain everyone else has been letting him win for years. I think about this a lot re: why tech bros think everyone will love AI chatbots.
People who spiral out overusing LLM chatbots are really just experiencing the kind of brain-damaging stream of unconditional validation that’s always been the norm for the hyper-wealthy, which explains a lot.
"The level of effort is so low that we consider it spam" is a great rule to have against AI content
It will never stop being funny to me that the street fighter subreddit has a much better, well reasoned ai policy vis a vis literally all universities.
Starmer's successor will be the seventh Prime Minister that Larry the Cat has seen in just forty years.
Can we all just take a moment to remember this brave theatre sign writer who tragically passed away doing the job he loved.
I've done the same "understanding the consequences of AI" talk twice today, and sometimes it's still a surprise even to me just how wide-ranging and varied the harmful impacts of technologies can be when they are badly made and rolled out without care and attention.
