Why do we spend 10 minute complaining about Vectrons being used on the railway. Yes moving to MUs only is cheaper for maintenance, but we are not Japanese and have cargo trains and use non fixed consists with locomotives. And the vectron is the most common locomotive in the world right now

as noted yesterday, Trump has now come around to treating an Iranian toll system covering the Strait of Hormuz as a given. Hard to overstate the level of strategic failure. US started the war purely as a war of choice and ends up dramatically empowering Iran and given the Iranian govt big wins.

"Making fees voluntary, at least nominally, could be a way out of the impasse, although an implied threat of Iranian attacks could mean shippers would be unlikely to risk transit without paying."
Okay it's kind of nuts that English is only the most widely spoken language in the world because of the people who speak it as a second language, of which there are *thrice* as many as native speakers
This is stupid, even by the standards of the last couple years.

The only person I actually know who did emigrate to the US was a rich kid stereotype with family already living there. It's not 1890 anymore. Your hopes and dreams don't permit uou entrance anymore. Money does.
I've mentioned it a few times before, but I've come across more left of centre Americans this morning who seem to think all it takes to emigrate to the US is the desire and a plane ticket. If you're going to argue in favour of immigration, it would be helpful to know how it actually works.
Yeah this is sort of hard to articulate but there’s a Walmart/Temu boundary that basically delineates the line between “this product is cheap” and “this product is actually fraudulent”

There are real parallels here to culture in other countries that are forced to live under perpetual military mobilization and they sandblasted all that potential material away to just do "JOOOS BAAAAD". Israel is a real country, not some abstraction in your head. However fucked up it very much is!

A court ruling in 2025 by the supreme court decided the govt couldn't have possibly meant precisely what the government said in a lot of detail when the act was originally published, an instead must have been interpreting the EA2010 as excluding trans people in most goods and services.
