there is a strain of lefty discourse where you can’t come to any unflattering conclusions about the populace—those must be explained away by how they are being acted upon by capital—but I think you’ll understand things better if you understand capital can also exploit weaknesses it didn’t create

Bluesky is a "liberal bubble" because fascist chuds can't get traction without algorithmic assistance and because people here trained themselves to block "debate me" trybois the instant they roll up

Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."

It’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better

The WNBA has never had a trans woman play in the league’s 30-year history and now the right and other anti-trans activists are hammering the league over something that has never been an issue, proving once again it isn’t about protection but exhibiting cruelty toward trans people.

It's weird how I heard almost no hype at all for this, nothing close to what Marvel movies used to be like or even what The Odyssey was like a couple weeks ago, and then it's the second biggest opening of all time? (I'm going tomorrow)

I think part of the reason so many people on bluesky are frothing with barely concealed rage is that it's not hard to do things like notice that Trump claims the war is almost over every Sunday and that he is about to destroy Iran every Friday but this is one of the only places ppl acknowledge it

a lot of what the right does nowadays is create an emotional support system for bigots. bigotry will offend and alienate people in your life, so the right looks provides a counterweight that lavishes you with praise.

this issue was just in front of the Supreme Court, and the case was the state of West Virginia against a middle school girl. which side sounds braver to you?

I've never really used Claude because I don't have a license for it like I do Copilot (work) and Gemini (personal trial because I bought a Pixel 10 Pro). I will say this was one of the things that have most driven me away from Copilot, and Gemini is much less annoying on this front.

I’ve seen a lot of my colleagues’ interactions with Claude working on research problems & it would be easier for me to accept it as a serious scientific tool if it didn’t end every single response with the LLM equivalent of “you want fries with that?” — constantly trying to goad you into asking more

Library workers aren’t funded well enough to be superheroes and some are more conservative than you might think but right now, in the dumpster fire year of our fascist lord 2026, I’m so proud of the great work some library workers are doing to resist book banning and AI.
