Former journo for a site you might have read. W-Mass community evangelist, volunteer, and town representative. Holder of strong and sometimes retrospectively wrong opinions. VP of US Vibes at a PR joint, but my career doesn’t define me.

Over the last six years, Starlink has really ruined the view of the night sky at the cottage. Always at least a few visible. Used to be an amazing view. I bet in even more pristine wilderness with even less light pollution that it’s even worse.

Back from China again. Found a rad milled wooden serving tray and made a custom leather insert for it to better enjoy my pretentious AF morning coffee. Perfectly fits my cup and pitcher.

On 29th January 1996, "Threshold", the Star Trek: Voyager episode where Captain Janeway and Tom Paris turned into giant space newts and had babies first aired. Since it's #ThresholdDay we aim to answer a burning question: did Paris and Janeway fuck? If so, how did they fuck?

Please note that all typos in my pitch notes and press releases are now deliberate indicators of Human Made Quality rather than mistakes, there only for your appreciation.

massachusetts drivers are fucking crazy but new hampshire drivers in massachusetts are fascinating bc when they say "live free or die" they mean it. except by "live free" they mean "let me do whatever i want" and by "die" they mean "i will kill everyone on this highway off-ramp including myself"

Cancel the LA Olympics, scrap the World Cup, the United States cannot be a trusted part of the international community so long as the White House operates this violently and with impunity.

Wish I could temporarily mute notifications from a single app for a set duration in a couple taps, rather than play endlessly with needlessly complicated focus/DnD modes. But I guess that’s asking Apple or Google to care more about my attention’s value to me over their ability to profit from it.

Every time folk are like “AI is the future,” gotta remind them that stuff is all just more complicated versions of the same statistical system that can’t even let you type the word “we’ll” in a grammatically correct context without fucking it up for you.

I mean, the thing is, and I keep telling people this, I am SUPER lazy, so why would I learn how to prompt "AI" to write in a non-"AI" way when I can just naturally write in an engaging, human style? I doubt there is ever going to be a point where adding "AI" to the mix isn't just extra work for me.

I just saw a great take on writers using "AI" - people don't like to read something that's clearly written by "AI", so we need to respect that and make sure it seems natural. So...put as much effort into tricking people into thinking we made an effort as we would into actually writing. Outstanding.
