Hey I'm Mitch, some guy with an engineering degree, a construction job, a lot of cats and an old house full of fix up projects. In my spare time, organizer for Lowell, MA area causes, candidates and the city Democratic committee.

Big primary day today with elections in KS, MI, MO, VA, and WA. If you live there, vote. If you know someone who lives there - especially Michigan - call them, and make sure they vote. November determines which party holds power. Primaries determine what kind of parties we have.

Today, August 4, 2026, is the setting of Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” about a fully automated house continuing on after the family who lived there and the world around it died in a nuclear blast.

”We have nothing to fear but fear itself” was a great, succinct description of markets as social phenomena, and this year has shown that there’s a corollary “everything is great if we all believe together that it is” to some degree as well.

There is rising actual antisemitism and conspiracism surrounding the state of Israel and its place in global affairs. And the organizations that should exist to call that out are wasting all of their credibility refusing to distinguish conspiracies from accurate descriptions of Israeli war crimes.

A shocking number of people believe, with zero evidence, that Israel is behind Moroccan migrants into Spain, which is just the Great Replacement conspiracy. Meanwhile, US Jewish orgs have declared war on Mamdani for accurately describing Netanyahu as a war criminal. www.haaretz.com/world-news/e...

Israel's fault? The conspiracy theory surrounding Spain's Ceuta border crossings

About 60,000 migrants crossing into Spain's North African enclave of Ceuta triggered conspiracy theories from across the political spectrum: Israel and the United States unleashed them in a bid to pun...

this boils down to "the pandemic didn't actually happen but they still closed the applebees" which frankly i think is a trauma response by a lot of people that buy it - lot easier to be in denial that things were that bad instead of reckoning with 1.3m dead people [in this country]

RFK Jr said these words today on national television "There were ICUs that were empty all over the country including in New York at the height (of the pandemic)" hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha You are a fucking idiot hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha <sobs silently>

Because the Federal Reserve board is the only federal board or commission whose statutory terms were not invalidated by the Roberts court, another reason beyond courts that it’s important we win the Senate is control of who’s appointed to the Fed next year and beyond as well.

DUY: Warsh “probably helped ensure that Biden appointees do not leave the board voluntarily ..” (via @weisenthal.bsky.social)

i am begging you — including some of you who follow me that i'm seeing in the OP QTs — to actually read what senate democrats are getting out of this and to stop and think for, like, at least 90 seconds, about what *else* you think a minority party *in both chambers* can squeeze out of the majority

stripping OMB of the ability to dole out grants is an enormous win, this nukes the SAVE act, it prohibits further ICE bailouts, adding a "no, really, trump can't break already on-the-books laws regarding elections the federal government doesn't run" clause would be both unnecessary and unproductive

It's pretty infuriating that Trump is denying disaster aid to Oregon for political reasons and I have barely heard anything about it, while Biden was falsely accused of doing the exact same thing to North Carolina and millions of people believed that

This is what I mean when I talk about the Fantasy of the Optional Pandemic, where the virus was erased from the equation and mitigation measures were always portrayed as an avoidable choice. Headlines about what actually happened are never even acknowledged.

There are working class and vulnerable kids who will never have the life they should have had because of school closures. Let’s address that too, shall we?
