In Bluesky CEO's interview, he talks about expanding platform audience, and shares they've actively recruited "sports" as part of that expansion. Bsky can use sports & sports ads to help fund an open platform. Or use sports to over-ride the existing community. Either way, plan a backup...

Margaret Atwood said that Handmaid's Tale was a cautionary tale, not a manual. But it seems the oligarchs are greedy about dystopia, too... ...trying to institute ALL the dystopian novels, all at once. I think we can push back on this one. Tell Bsky we know how to migrate & will do it faster
Unless there's some real just-so stuff going on this would allow the construction of a Maxwell's Demon, which can't exist (because it would require creating information out of nothing). So probably not "heat", but infra-red radiation, which are *not* equivalent (IR can have any angular distribution)

Hey @cityofvancouver.bsky.social thanks for promoting clean air in the creekside community centre! I'm curious - against what standard or other operating parameters are you ensuring clean air?
This is a bad move. We should be investing in molten salt reactors designed in Canada. SMRs are the last gasp of water-cooled nuclear, which is a dead end. Molten salt is the future. We could be a leader on this, like so much else, but choose the wrong path.
Canada’s Nuclear Strategy Depends On Foreign Reactors and Foreign Fuel Canada is betting heavily on small modular reactors. Prof Mark Winfield explains why that may create new dependence on foreign reactor designs/enriched uranium fuel. @YorkUniversity youtu.be/F4gpARbRetg
Safer air is not just about air filtration. Today I am going to service and clean the air conditioner. I haven’t used it in ages, so I’m getting it ready for summer. I don’t fancy starting it up and getting some fantastic fungus from it, or allergies if it’s dusty.
Henceforth, anytime you’re ranting to fellow covid-conscious folks about the impact of society just pretending the covid-19 pandemic is over, it’s not “preaching to the choir.” It’s now called “venting to the HVAC system.” 😁 #covidisnotover #covidisairborne #covid #longcovid #long-covid
Given past oversight failures around clinical trials and associated conflicts of interest at McMaster (e.g. the infamous N95 vs medical mask trial), ethics concerns need to be taken very seriously and trustworthiness demonstrated, or public confidence in the clinical trial ecosystem is at risk.

I don't know who needs to hear this (well I do), but if you start a sentence with "I'm not bullying you," then have a pattern of ending sentences with derogatory comments and insults about someone's mask being a "mental illness," you are in fact bullying them

Clean indoor air is helpful against disease all the time, not just episodicly "in a pandemic". We treat drinking water *all the time*, not just during cholera outbreaks. Until we get over this medical/reactive mindset, airborne pandemics will continue. Put engineers in charge of public health!
2. Clean indoor air: helpful in a pandemic and good for health and learning at all times (and not just in schools but other buildings too) 3. Effective public health measures: testing, contact tracing, support for isolation, communication, etc 10/12
I won't encourage or discourage. Everyone is different. I would suggest thinking about is how much doing nothing would impact you and if surgery would provide any noticeable major gains. That's a good conversation to have with your orthopedic surgeon. When I'm awake, it just reaching above my head.
My favourite joke from my RCAF days: Cdn F18 pilot at USAF base crosses the red line to get to his fighter. Security arrive: Step back 3 places and get on the ground! Pilot: But I'm a Canadian fighter pilot! USAF: Don't worry. We'll count to three for you (As you might imagine, I was not a pilot)
Interesting thread here of a type getting more common here, of someone's PR / comms team talking to itself about how great the Carney government is and mocking people who care about the environment as unrealistic. Same science -cosplay playbook they botched the pandemic with.
Always disappointing when people resort to insults in a discussion. Please keep your USAmerican political style of polarizing out of Canada. Thanks.
So many sneering elitist journalists with snarky posts over the past months that the Reflecting Pool story was trivial. It was so trivial that the DC US Attny presented false evidence to a grand jury to indict an innocent man to please the President while they both lied about it.

From a nursing group I'm in. People won't get vaccines which have been rigorously tested, but they will take unregulated supplements and peptides. We are truly living in the movie Idiocracy
It’s always odd to me when I get asked if I am wearing a mask because I am sick. In my experience, these days most people wearing a mask are doing so to prevent themselves getting sick, and most people who are sick don’t wear a mask at all.
