Hah, hobbies COVID lockdown was working full time starting at 6AM while my wife watched our infant and then switching roles at noon, then two hours for dinner and everything else we had to do, and repeat on weekends to reach 40 hours Also drinking too much, I suppose that's a hobby

I have a question for the masses This came up at work. In 2020 was your COVID lockdown hobby if you had one? I’ll go first. I joined an ant colony on Facebook. 😭 (don’t ask)

Why do we keep on doing this? Praising a 'small core team' for a game with 1100+ people in the credits is incredibly misleading. This PR narrative hurts, hides the massive shadow workforce of outsourced developers and testers, and sets impossible standards for actual indie teams.

A screenshot from Star Wars: Galactic Racer from Moby Games site, highlighting 1,136 people (1,109 professional roles, 27 thanks) with 1,159 credits.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer was made by a core team of 75 people. "What we wanted to do was keep that core small, smaller than perhaps you might have done in the past, and scale capacity and capability with what we call distributed development." https://bit.ly/4hT02qg

Gobsmacked by the elite levels of not knowing ball in the Senate today, thinking an NBA team is called the Hawkeyes then, refusing to Google it, then accusing a guy of treason because you didn’t know the Iowa Lady Hawkeyes aren’t in the NBA. Somehow I don’t trust these people to Save Girls Sports.

I hope this email finds you, binds you ties you to a pole and breaks your fingers to splinters drags you to a hole until you wake up naked clawing at the ceiling of your grave ooooooh-whooooooah

Since a dev shared his game concept last month, Steam has been flooded with vibe-coded slop clones. This is what "democratising creativity" actually looks like. Even with AI, your ideas are worthless as long as they can be plagiarised at scale. Gen AI was designed for plagiarism, NOT creativity.

“Everything is 40% more expensive because of AI” is a great line for an opposition party trying to unseat the AI-supported incumbents, if any Democratic consultants wanted to take a short break from dehumanizing trans kids to actually try winning a contested election.

The Steam Frame starts at $1,059, but it was probably supposed to cost about $750, as the RAM crisis continues to raise prices. https://t.co/Oq9XUHM630

If Democrats were serious they would go straight for the jugular of the crypto industry as soon as they take power. There’s public policy reasons to do this (name a non-crime use case), but also it cuts off a major artery for Republican support and corruption.

Another clear and knowable downstream consequence of letting scammers get rich off crypto was that that money would boomerang back into politics in ways that were highly likely to try to skirt around fundraising laws and distort policy incentives.

a few years ago when i was a graduating game design major the one thing i did not want to do was start my own company/kickstart a passion project, because i knew that no amount of striking out on my own could substitute from actually learning from seniors

so are we gonna get a bunch of political analysis thumbsucker pieces about the cautionary tale of a promising youngish politico who torpedoed his career by latching on to the biological gender extremists who are attempting to drag the Democratic Party into hugely unpopular political waters or nah

Just spotted that Titanium Court is half price. Very weird, very smart, very funny hybrid match 3 strategy roguelite autobattler. It is also a modern retelling of A Midsummer Night's Dream, where your magical private helicopter can be chased around the magical battlefield by rabid magical papparazi

Save 50% on Titanium Court on Steam

A critically-acclaimed surreal masterpiece. This is how AP Thomson would describe Titanium Court if not for the curse he bears as punishment for his hubris. Instead he can only use the crudest of term...

I am becoming incredibly exhausted of this pattern: many people: "AI sucks!" Very Smart Person: ah but have you considered (distinct application of ML or statistical modeling that has no real relationship to what the tech industry is marketing as, and people broadly perceive as, "AI")

apropos of nothing, here's a terrific feature about a meaningful, life-saving use of artificial intelligence, which I have been thinking about for over a year. it's just extremely stupid to say that AI has zero benefits even if you don't think it should be used in writing (which I don't)!

The constant, unrelenting, mainstream media narrative of "I can't conceptualise that so it can't possibly be real and anyone who says it otherwise is lying" is so exhausting and is always targeted at groups who have been minding their own business for decades harming no one.

People message me that my assets get resold at Fab, itch.io & Roblox. Technically that's legal (sort of debatable), but I still feel it's unfair for people that pay for them while they could've been free. I want my assets to be free, please keep them free.
