Having spent the weekend in DC, let me assure you that no matter how much you think you hate what he’s done to our capital, you should hate it more. Giant banners of his mugshot, tacky gold paint on the statues, a fucking UFC cage on the White House lawn and armed troops everywhere. (spits)

People love historical what if scenarios. What if JFK was never assassinated? What if the Nazis won in WW2? A scenario I never see discussed is what if the aids crisis didnt decimate the gay men of America in the 80s-90s? Its easy to forget 1 in 15 gay boomer men died. An estimated 300,000 deaths-

“There may be.” FFS. Forget the flags. I have a literal masters degree in public health, I’m an actual union leader (in my second term as chapter president,) I’m a college professor, and a reproductive health advocate. And people are quibbling over if he abused his exes enough to be disqualifying.

when this critique is made, it often feels like it's about politics, like the answer is to just let the Nazis on here, but that misses why X, despite it all, is still a more fun place. it's because the "no fucks given" style there means *more* willingness to engage in roiling, exciting conversation.

The Religious Right is desperate these days to pretend that "Christian Nationalism" is (1) a recently-invented term and (2) a pejorative invented by their enemies, but neither of those claims is remotely true. Here's a short thread, but I'm sure other historians will have examples too.

Dear car makers, Knock it off. You shouldn’t have to be digitally stalked to drive a car. We would never allow a car company to follow you around, document your driving habits, and sell it to companies like a dirty little snitch in the physical world and we shouldn’t allow it in the digital world.

I'm fascinated at the strong reactions to this, but I get what he's saying. I'm a DC lawyer now but grew up in the deep south. While my DC friends and I talk about recidivism rates and juvenile justice, people from where I come from say "line 'em up and shoot 'em." I think that's all he's saying.
