If you’re tempted to use genAI to brainstorm for writing stories, please just talk abt your story to friends instead! Friends who have good story sense that you trust, writer friends who will give you honest feedback, friends who care & get excited about your ideas with you! I know it’s scary +

Saying it for maybe the 50th time: Do not accuse someone of using AI unless you have ABSOLUTELY AIRTIGHT proof, because if not, you're just adding to the paranoia and causing stress for hard-working artists. And yes, going onto social media and going 'Hrrm, I've no proof, but...' is an accusation.

We recently got accused of using AI for music in our game and, while it's disheartening, it encouraged me to make a thread about making music for games, what it takes, and why it can be heartbreaking to be accused or even suspected of something we detest. 🧵Long thread follows:

How does python keep surprising me with how powerful its object model is. I've worked with this language for over a decade and I just keep learning new things. Today's edition: the real power of classmethod, descriptors and __init_subclass__ and __set_name__ dunders.

this wave of AI has legitimately killed a huge part of what I loved about seeing stuff online, what I loved about being an educator, and what I loved about sharing my own work I just don't feel like doing it anymore

the more you resist it, too, the more likely you are to attract the kind of person who finds violating consent to be a fun and exciting challenge. and again, it only takes one copy getting out to make most of the effort in "stopping scraping" pointless. hence why i piss em off instead. works better

One of those "found you!" scenarios happens all the time with templates giving away classes whose RTTI got stripped but a collection type's didn't. Then that collection calls the type's constructor, giving you the vtable you can now associate with the correct class!

Reverse engineering a binary with partial RTTI really gives a similar high to deduction games like type help, TR-49, roottrees,... "I know you have to exist, but *where are you*" at a base class' constructor/vtable/default-implementation functions. Such a high when you end up finding it!

When my (then future) wife first came to live with me, I surprised her by hanging a portrait I drew of her in the kitchen, so it'd be the 1st thing she'd see when coming in. We've been together ever since. I've drawn a new portrait every 10 years since then. Happy 20th, кошка.

I don't know who needs a real pickmeup today, but in recent court filings about the wealth owned by Andrew Tate, they indicate the Bugattis and Aston Martin he always bragged about owning... were rented. All of them.

i think my favorite xml crime was seeing <keyvaluepair><key>burp</key><value>fart</value></keyvaluepair>. like the platonic ideal of the overflowing tupperware cabinet in the "there has to be a better way!" commercial

It’s worse than this. Having been in the room with many of them (long ago, before I knew they were psychopaths), the tycoons who are left running the industry have an active contempt for ordinary people, including their own workers. They actively want to oppress, control and punish them.

Tech execs do not have, like, a theory of mind for people who aren’t tech execs. If they did, they wouldn’t be so frequently baffled by how repulsive normal people think their whole deal is right now
