LLMs appear useful in writing/coding for the same reason cars appear as a good choice for transportation. Because they let the users reap the benefits while outsourcing a majority of the costs to the rest of society

The EHRC Code of Practice comes into force this week. This is an attack on trans+ people. It is guidance, not law. It does not remove rights or make harassment legal. UCU stands in solidarity with the trans+ community. Join the lobby for trans equality, 9 September with Trans+ Solidarity Alliance

The EHRC guidance and Code of Practice comes into force this week. This is an attack on trans+ people.
These changes will make trans+ people's lives harder.
They will not make women safer. As a result of this we are likely to see greater exclusion from everyday spaces, increased scrutiny and harassment, and institutions rushing through damaging policy changes.
Let's be clear, it does not:
• Permit harassment or discrimination.
• Remove anyone's legal protections.
• Justify rushed, intrusive policy changes. What you can do:
• Look out for each other, solidarity is practical, not just a post.
• Report harassment, it is still illegal and your union will back you.
• Push your institution to protect every student and member of staff.
• Join us in Parliment for a mass rally on SeptemberViolence against women is real, and it is serious. It is also being used to justify this attack on trans people.
This guidance will not prevent it.
The dangers women face do not come from trans people sharing a bathroom.
UCU sends solidarity to the trans+ community. We will keep fighting for trans+ inclusion, and against the misuse of the EHRC Code of Practice.

This has really pissed me off, if you're in the area and can afford it go and give the cafe owner some money to help fund the kids meals. And if he refuses buy yourself a nice coffee and tip him as much as you can. Fuck Reform taking food from kids in need. www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic...

I’ve said it before and I’ll no doubt say it again. Universities are roughly 1000 years old. They predate most operating models including capitalism and have lasted for a reason. Installing insecure, helpless managers who ape business methods results in bad businesses, not good universities.

David Latchman has been appointed Vice Chancellor of University of London He was found guilty of research misconduct by University College, London. He blamed his postdocs. Nice to see strategy, networking & playing the long game win out in the end 😉
