Just watched Sirat Holy cow, what an incredible film. Some of the most moving and at-times-bleak and beautiful and tense film-making I've seen. You feel your way through this film. Find yourself dwarfed by the land and soundscapes. Read nothing about this. Just see it. Submerge into it. #filmsky

Just got out of Studio Ghibli’s adaptation of the Odyssey. So many women on the boat! It was great the way they sang back to the sirens, making it a stalemate. The boat was so gorgeous: all rivets and sweeping sails, and how cool was that horse: reimagined as an internally spacious dragon! 5 stars.

Just got out of Quentin Tarrantino’s adaptation of the Odyssey. Lots of lingering shots of sandals. Samuel L. Jackson as Zeus was an interesting choice. He also jammed Oedipus into the story, mostly so the gods could berate him with a pungent 12-letter epithet.

Turns out I am a huge fan of the style of comedy-drama that boils down to "two couples have a fight at dinner" 🙋‍♀️🙅‍♂️💥🤦‍♀️🤦‍♂️ Loved "The Invite" and highly recommend it as a good time at the cinema. Pair it with "The Drama" and 2011's "Carnage" for an excellent filmic throuple. #TheInvite

I won an award at Sundance years ago and Sam Neill, whom I did not know, tweeted to me “we’re all so proud of you, sweetheart”. I can’t even express what that meant to me. That our most beloved national treasure, a man I worshipped, would take the time to write to me!

This is pretty well known, but the Australian flag Sam Neill wore on his uniform in Event Horizon was designed at his request to show the Union Jack replaced with the Aboriginal flag, because he hoped in the future this is how it would actually look. A proper fucken ally in every way, this bloke.

Sam Neill spent some of his lockdown posting wholesome chats and duck-cuddling content from his home in New Zealand. These meant a lot to me during a pretty dark time. This drawing was inspired by one of his posts. Thanks for everything, Sam. Your amazing films and your humanity. Rest in peace.

A thing I love about writing is the PROCESS OF WRITING because I can sort out & note down all the ideas, of course. But it is process that creates narrative. Often I don't know how I am going to make a plot point work until, as I'm writing, a solution slides onto the page. Boom! It's magic.

Am steadily moving through all the Mission Impossible films and man, Mission Impossible 5: Rogue Nation is just super (my favorite so far). The way the plot echoes the structure of the Opera: Turandot (a major setpiece) with all these nods to Nessun Dorma throughout the score. Makes you feel good.
