Good thread. I remember looking for women authors back when I was a young woman. They were often difficult to find because they wrote under their initials to camouflage their suspect femaleness. I read a lot of Anne McCaffrey and Judith Tarr as a result.

I am a girl. I like reptiles and horror movies and science fiction and comics and TTRPGs, and for my entire life, every time I have entered a space, I have had to prove that I didn't "steal" it from the person* it rightfully belonged to. (*Boy, then man.)

- the fact that: 1. A lot of DC power brokers have been in their positions forever, and aren't truly seeing the dangers on the ground, and 2. We're still a relatively young country who doesn't know how to fight when the threat is truly real. It's passive incrementalism at its worse.

AOC being more ahead of the game has been a pretty constant story for years and it's important to have someone not falling for any part of the scam take the lead on this issue.
