love living in a timeline where a notable callout for a CDC director is “she supports science”

A really funny complaint about the Zohran discount grocery store idea is that non-poor people could use it when there’s a grocery store half a mile from my grocery store that has everything cost 20% more that rich people go to because they don’t want to shop with normal people.
Never seen it before, so I plan to be at this screening.

“I’m set to make a killing off this movie where sex is only legal once a year. They bought the IP from my wife!”
Just crossed the terminal: Microsoft disclosures suggest that OpenAI is about 70% of AI sales! If only someone had said something
Analysts estimate that 70%+ of Microsoft, Google and Amazon's present and future AI revenues are from Anthropic and OpenAI's compute spend and model sales. Outside of two unsustainable AI labs, demand barely exists, and they've massively overbuilt capacity. www.wheresyoured.at/the-ai-deman...
One thing that makes me feel insane is that the primary use of AI is to mass produce the pornography that they are trying to make it illegal for humans to make. But also, the AI isn't even good at it. None of it is hot!
My Sex Purge movie would be about a rebellion where very horny people take down the American government and ends with them having a giant orgy at the White House accompanied by the ghost of Prince providing musical accompaniment.
This is just one of the many reasons we politely declined to review Eli Roth's latest.
Here's Eli Roth retconning his lie that he didn't use AI in the new film, when it became obvious he had used it he made up some lie about misspeaking - www.polygon.com/eli-roth-ice...
First off, how in the hell was this film not called "The Urge"? The Guardian's review ends with this scathing point:
The drive for AI, the desire for humanoid labor & by extension the demand for sexbots lays bare the modern status obsessed capitalist desire for what they can convince themselves is an ethical form of exploitation. It’s proven by the quest to simulate intelligence. The stimulus of abuse is crucial.
It is interesting though, seeing the body of movies that where greenlit, at least initially, under the assumption that November '24 marked a permanent, rightward sea change in the public.
I could also see a nervy Starship Troopers/Zone of Interest version of the Sex Purge movie where you take a knife to purity and trad culture by deliberately doing a meet cute romcom in a dystopia, but that doesn't appear to be what One Night Only is doing either.
TFW you live in a world that doesn't require a Sex Purge.

if you are dismissive of AI use you should consider that I need it to help manage my disability (AI psychosis)
Odysseus told Penelope there was a 7-year ONE NIGHT ONLY-like Sex Purge on the island.
So Odysseus and Charlize Theron, nothing happened for seven years right? Just pals right ?
ONE NIGHT ONLY (2026) Dir.: Will Gluck DP: Yaron Orbach #OnePerfectShot
Definitely the kind of resume buildup for...a sex comedy.
Everyone's fascination with the One Night Only premise is missing the fun career turn aspect.
I don't actually see any evidence of this? As far as I can tell most academics response to the Wilson piece (those who have seen it at all) was "huh, fair enough - I liked the film tho". I'm guessing this isn't registering because low key calm responses aren't flashy or memorable.
If the academy gets pulled into coming out swinging against the biggest adaptation of Homer in probably a couple generations off the back of one prominent scholar deciding to be Reviewer 2 to Nolan's work, it will say, IMO, pretty damning things about academia's ability to foster public engagement.
The trailers for ONE NIGHT ONLY truly demonstrate the difference between this person is hot and can also act (Monica Barbaro) and the other thing (Callum Turner).
Callum Turner is the Glen Powell of Josh O'Connors (derogatory).
This film apparently imagines a world where straight people are the biggest victims of government fascism. Let's all sit with that thought for awhile and consider what would motivate someone to write this script.
In ONE NIGHT ONLY, the film's retro gay BFF makes a comment that gays aren't out on the free-for-all sex night because they're flouting the law. This line was added to combat any criticisms that the film has no gay people partaking in the Sex Purge. It's a piss-poor excuse in an embarrassing film.

This has to be one of the most mood-killing premises in the history of romantic comedies.
The only ONE NIGHT ONLY you should deal with is the one sung by Effie in DREAMGIRLS. This movie is puritanical, heteronormative horse pucky that's so outdated it should be sent back to 1984 where it belongs. Monica Barbaro deserved better. And Callum Turner? No. www.bostonglobe.com/2026/08/05/a...
I have been informed that the Sex Purge movie is an incel www.avclub.com/one-night-on...
One Night Only sends itself to horny jail
For a movie based around the 24 hours when sex is legal, One Night Only is an infuriatingly conservative romantic comedy.

If AI disappeared tomorrow, the only change in my life would be that google search suddenly got better again.
Guys like this don’t realize that they are the freak
Apparently a lot of people thought the Overton window could only be shoved to the right.
Looks like they finally made a romantic comedy about sex for people on the internet who drop to the fainting couch over films having too many sex scenes.
"If this is what it takes to get a rom-com greenlit these days, maybe we should just let them die. Death with dignity is surely a better fate for the genre than fascist capitulation." Zero stars for this piece of shit movie. My review of ONE NIGHT ONLY for @ebertvoices.bsky.social
Saw this at the Aero last year followed by McCABE & MRS. MILLER which is an interesting thing to experience to notice how much those two films mirror one another.
