Just to tie this into Alberta at this very moment, the Cargill workers that Kenney's UCP treated as expendable are exactly the foreign workers that Smith's UCP wants to charge $1,900 a year to access health care, even though these workers pay taxes from the minute they start working.

This is quite cool. My university is the first organisation in the world to force Microsoft to allow us to turn off copilot summaries in Word 365, after a backlash against it from staff (including, very vocally, me). That cannot have been easy for our heroic IT people so hats very much off to them!

Periodically I get videos from a “party princess” in my feed (a performer who dresses up like various characters for children’s events). I wound up lingering on a detail of one of her costumes and wound up staying for her advice to performers for respecting kids’ boundaries, including mobility aids.

A reminder that all the aspects of our economic system are made up and we can have a better system if we wanted to. Homelessness for example. We could have an economy that builds homes for homeless people. It does not have to be this way.

today in Stop Romanticizing Canada: Quebec’s Bill 9 has just taken effect, barring women in veils from receiving public services. Public employees include university faculty, so professors have been instructed to require veiled women to uncover their faces or be removed from the classroom.

In Ottawa, they compiled data that showed the city has at least 10 MRI machines across its network of hospitals. Most of them close overnight — one at 3 p.m. — and shut down on weekends. City hospitals also have dozens of operating rooms, most of which close by 5 p.m. and on weekends, the report said. If given the proper funding, hospitals could expand their hours of operation and perform the procedures being done at private clinics for far less money, it adds. Kevin Skerrett, a researcher and executive at the Ottawa Health Coalition, said the move is part of an overall strategy of the provincial government to create a private health care system.
