Principal Narrative Designer @Housemarque. CONTROL, Returnal, SAROS. I like weird things. Bigots need not follow. She/her

After a 7 hour whirlwind session, I finished The Incident at the Galley House. A must-play for the fans of Obra Dinn and Golden Idol and all the other delicious mystery crack. The best twist since Inscryption! (* or maybe mildwind as I’m little slow due to fever)

Finished my only summer vacation game, Tactical Breach Wizards. Such lovely strategy puzzles, the well-placed progression and of course the writing and narrative design (especially the map and connecting threads as a clarifier of the mission and the plot!) Big love to the team!

Hello! For a potential piece on Eurogamer, I would love to know what cool little things people in and around games are working on. Not full games, but fun, interesting, weird projects or side projects. Things you're noodling around with, things you just think are neat. Replies/reposts very welcome!

I genuinely cannot name a game show in the last 20 years that has so successfully innovated as @dropout.tv's Game Changers. They get social media, they understand why they're there, and they consistently find ways to make each episode distinct and memorable from all of the others. Good work.

If you're a trans person in England (or the parent or guardian of a young trans person in England) I strongly recommend doing this immediately. The new data principles for the shared NHS record in England - based on the transphobic and psuedoscientific Sullivan Review - are designed to out us.

You can opt-out of having a shared NHS record. I opted out over a decade ago now and it has never affected any of the medical care I receive except having to give new doctors a list of my medicine because they can't pull it off my GPs system. www.nhs.uk/using-the-nh...

I've read so many "hot takes" about accessibility in my ten-year career; this, though, takes the absolute cake. No, accessibility is not responsible for closing studios, wasting millions, or causing layoffs. Don't be like this guy.

A screenshot of a LinkedIn post by Richard Boisvert a Principal Technical Cinematic Artist who said: It's an unbelievable thing to see that menu narration is enabled by default in the new Halo game, a feature that caters to blind people. What Halo Studios / 343 is essentially saying is this:

"We need this option on by default because a blind person is incapable of navigating the menu to find and enable it. However, once enabled, they can play the game just fine."

This is the end-state of the inclusive and accessibility mafia. They cater so hard to the edge-case, that they actually make unreasonable defaults to the majority. Why don't they also enable the colorblind filters too? What's the difference?

It doesn't matter that you can "just turn it off" or that it's "no big deal". The fact that they went with that as the DEFAULT is insanity. It shows how warped the frame-of-mind and worldview is of these people. This shows, by proxy, the beurocratic bloat of AAA.

These are the kinds of decisions and infrastructures that kill companies, waste millions, cause layoffs, and I am sick of seeing it. We are not in a gaming crash because of "greed", we are in a crash because of stupid shit like this.

What’s is even more amazing is that - with 10k plus unique attendees - Ropecon is entirely volunteer led and organised. It really is a remarkable and brilliant event. And games aside, the sheer scope of the talks and workshops is mind boggling.

Jon is right on the money. The trade hall - so central to the big UK cons - isn't even close to being the most important part of Ropecon. What are important are the 1000+ games, talks, workshops, and other events running. There is something for you to do every minute of the con.

Ahhhh Ropecon! So good. I was there as a guest in 2019 and it was a really great experience. Such a different vibe to the big US (and now UK) shows.

So one of the most useful phrases I've started using since the devastating burnout a few years ago: 5 minutes is better than no minutes. I can do just about anything for 5 minutes. It's a very low threshold and it helps me get over the hurdle of *doing*.

If a team makes a game that gets great reviews and doesn't sell, that's a biz failing but the silver lining is you caught lighting in a bottle -- protect that team! It's worth its weight in gold. If you jettison the team but keep the biz people, I don't know what to tell you

Disgusting, immoral, inhumane behavior from people who will never suffer financially or professionally. And in the midst of this stupid culture war, people who lack humanity and empathy will consider this a win.

NEW: I spoke to multiple people impacted by the job cuts at Xbox to understand how the latest round of mass layoffs played out and what it means for the embattled video game division moving forward. This is their story.

22 Trade Union leaders representing more than a MILLION workers are calling on Rockstar Games to recognise the Rockstar Games Workers Union. I have the unwavering belief I was dismissed, and subsequently forced to leave the UK due to my involvement with this union. Do the right thing Rockstar.

NEW 🚨| 22 trade union leaders, representing more than 1.3 million workers, are calling on @rockstargames.com to stop playing games with workers' rights and recognise the @gameworkers.co.uk . Read and share the letter below 👇 #Solidarity #StrikeMap

Dear Jenn Kolbe and Rob Spampinato

Rockstar stop playing games with workers rights

We call on Rockstar Games to recognise the IWGB Rockstar Union.

The success of the video games industry comes from the efforts of its workers and it is essential that structures are created to ensure the workers have a voice in decision making.

Without the Rockstar workforce, Grand Theft Auto would not be one of the highest grossing video game franchises of all time. Now Rockstar workers must be given a seat at the table so they can share in this success.

The IWGB has a proud record bringing together workers in the video games sector - launched by the Game Workers Unite international and lately having achieved the first recognition agreement in the sector at ZA/UM.

I do not believe democracy is compatible with billionaires being able to spend unlimited amounts of money on politics.

deeply annoying that creative breakthroughs don’t come on schedule from direct work but from things like “open-ended conversations with interesting people” and “doing nothing”
