The #Valkyries calling a huddle to take a deep breath was one of the more powerful Bay Area sports moments I've witnessed. #GSV

So, I turned my chaotic little developmental biology rant into an actual article that is hopefully somewhat less chaotic and a bit more approachable.
Good 🧵 on recent fate mapping of mid-hindbrain boundaries using seperate lineage tracers, with authors concluding that we have two separately specified CNS regions. But we knew this for a couple decades now, and there is much more finessing of brain specification than simply “two brains”.
Ok, this "there are two separate brains" thing appears to be making the rounds, and I want to be absolutely clear: this is a press office overhyping some perfectly reasonable science that won't come as a surprise to most developmental biologists.
Thread 19: Initial Embryonic Brain Structures Part II. Again, largely from the Bianchi textbook. (1/n)
Thread 17: Initial Embryonic Brain Structures. For the first time, this thread is NOT taken from my notes on the Neural unit in my biology advisor’s 2024 graduate dev bio class, but is largely drawn from the Bianchi “Developmental Neurobiology” textbook. (1/n)

So we are a two-brained species after all... Interesting. #urantia #UrantiaBook www.sciencedaily.com/releases/202...
Feel free to send/ask questions about the paper, grad school, start-up life, etc
And yes, this very fun very cool research was led by, among our many other identities, a trans PhD student and a Muslim MD/PhD student

Two parallel neural ectoderm progenitors contribute to the developing brain
Nature Neuroscience - This study shows that the brain arises from two distinct progenitors: one forms the forebrain and midbrain, whereas the other generates the hindbrain. These insights enable...

Cabo Verde is the team of the tournament to me
for my stem cell folks, hmu if you are also at #isscr2026 ! excited to hear about all the amazing progress in the field this week
Once again, chaos league delivers. All teams are terrible. All teams are wonderful. Bless and love the circle! watmildon.github.io/NWSLParityCh... #nwsl
NWSL fans who came in after the pandemic: this really happened. This game counted in the standings.
Every time there is a ballpark game or talk of a ballpark game in the league, I have to make sure the youths know about the OG ballpark game
Atlanta NWSL will be making more money per year from their shirt deal ($4m) than the current salary cap allows teams to spend ($3.5m + revenue share)
Atlanta United has signed a reported $28 million deal with Aflac for a kit sponsor for the Atlanta NWSL team to begin play in 2028. Said to be the richest such deal in women's sport (for now).

Bonkers day in San Francisco. 1. HUGE power outage across the city. 2. The Palace Hotel has been evacuated and part of Market St. shut down after reports of shots fired and a hostage negotiator team is on site. 3. A car is fully engulfed in the Stonestown mall parking lot.
as of this week it has officially been 18 years since an anonymous user uploaded this bizarre image of an opossum cornered in a baby grand piano to Wikimedia Commons

Feel like I’m in a fever dream watching the Toys R Us giraffe rocking out to Turn Down for What in the Macy’s parade
The detail from the game last night I am gonna remember. Both @spiritsquadron.bsky.social and @cloud9goth.bsky.social brought and hung Trans Lives Matter banners in front of their sections. Well done, friends!
don't feel great about TDoR right now; given how many cis people want us dead, it feels like public grieving gives them fodder to celebrate
This lil drawing I made for the first TDOR I was out for. So many complicated feelings with today. Hoping you are alive and well today.
Can’t believe the whole country has to suffer through the return of Dickensian childhood diseases because the worst, most ignorant attention-demanders decided other people’s expertise makes them feel bad
Marta rolling in like this??? This semifinal about to be real as shit.
Yes, some people's legacies are complicated. For example, Watson. After all, though he was racist, don't forget his other traits. For example, he was also sexist. And also anti-semitic. And a data / idea thief. So let's not forget all the different facets.
They should have had like an option on amazon prime to solely watch the game from the ref cam lmao
