Is everyone aware of the General Motors streetcar conspiracy? In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.

It's like they have no concern for the people who left home 5 minutes late to drive their kids to school two towns over.

Hell yeah! Almost seven years after Theodore Ferrara was killed by a driver on Lyndale, and we started advocating for serious change, we got there. It's not a perfect design (there are a lot of things I'd do differently), but it's light-years better than the 2019 status quo.

Says other cities are moving to this tech. In addition to surveillance concerns, many have been critical of the drone vendor working with Israel.
The Lyndale Ave reconstruction was approved 8-4 at the Minneapolis City Council meeting this morning! We've been working on this #LivableLyndale effort for over three years and believe this new street design will be a great improvement to the area. I hope that Mayor Frey will approve too.

David N. Thomas@dnthomas01.bsky.social · 3w agoOK, nothing like the extremes of temperature endured by the Tour de France cyclists at the moment ....but cycling in #Helsinki (mostly on the #helsinkiBikeCommute) has an interesting temperature spread this year: -26℃ on 30 January and +28℃ today
This makes me so happy. Over the years I’ve learned just how practical cargo bikes can be. Now I’m seeing more families around Minneapolis figuring that out too, even in the middle of winter.

In reality it's an 18 month project. Uptown Association has been spreading misinformation that it's a 3 year project. This freedom fighter just updated it to 10 years for emphasis.
