The Democratic party leadership fighting harder against the DSA than they do against Trump really says something. These people gotta go, man

i got values but i don't know how or why
Being on X fucks up your worldview in a way that even smart people who understand what Musk is trying to do refuse to admit. You can't sit in the sewer all day and still be disgusted by shit. Worse yet, it encourages people to feel righteous when shame might be a more appropriate emotion.
Very good piece from @lioneltrolling.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/johnganz...
I’m no expert, but it’s not as though Newton did all that well fitting into academia when he was alive. He was almost disqualified for not being willing to sign a religious oath, and by all accounts almost no one attended his lectures.
Apparently the test of the modern university is whether it would accommodate a seventeenth century academic exactly as he was
If you find yourself dooming, it's worth recalling that Trump has neither the legal nor (more importantly) the practical ability to effectively federalize & rig the midterms. But if you find yourself complacent, it's important to note he can cause a whole lot of chaos by illegally trying & failing.
🚨🚨🚨 WAYNE ALLYN ROOT: You have the right to declare a national security emergency for elections. If you do this in the next month, we will get photo ID, proof of citizenship, and a limit to mail ballots TRUMP: Let me just say stranger things have happened. I'll leave it at that
People are furious of course but this is one of the funniest things that's ever happened. He's been posting memes of himself hanging out with Douglas MacArthur and George Patton and he snuck off the plane in a box of pizza rolls
What do you MEAN they smuggled the president out of Turkey in a catering cart
That first point is *profoundly* antisemitic and discriminatory towards Jews who do not adopt it.
Haverford codifies antisemitism into campus policy, stipulating that fascism and genocide are intrinsic to Jewish nature.
I really dislike the implication here that reading or writing books without these things is 'unethical.' Look, it's entirely fair to only want to read particular types of romance, and for publishers to advertise that their stories fall within certain limits. Christian romance exists! But ...
I learned last week that Yellowstone National Park doesn't have bear-proof trash receptacles due to what one ranger called "the large overlap between the smartest bears and the dumbest humans" and it sounded so apt that I had no words tyranny is impossible without stupidity
"Who is my enemy? I'm no longer sure," can become the new, "I have never felt more politically homeless."
As a positive statement, the US is currently unable to conduct international affairs. No official is responsible, any action the US takes is likely illegal under domestic and international law, and any agreement will not be honored. It is as if the country is legally incapacitated.
I’d go further — it also means an executive mindset based on short term Zaslavian plunder, not just prioritizing growth over long term sustainability but actively undermining the concept of a thriving company beyond the exec’s personal payout.
I would like to see more companies admit this - being a public company no longer means running a successful, thriving business. It strictly means delivering growth to investors, every single quarter, who do not care at all about the product the company sells or the people who produce it.
I rarely share personal news here but: I was laid off from my job in public sector communications based in the East Bay. I want to channel this life change into a time where I write as much as possible. So if you want to collab with me or have leads in writing opportunities, please DM me!
This guy never served. He faked an injury to avoid the draft. None of his children have served. He called those who did serve their country "suckers and losers." He skipped the centenary memorial for servicemen who died in WWI because it was drizzling. This is more than usually repellent.
ok but seeing a future with some of them would have been completely insane

“We should return to an older and more accurate name for the Civil War: the Slaveholders’ Rebellion. If a country unquestioningly adopts language that obscures its bloodiest crimes to absolve their worst perpetrators, how can we expect successive generations to remember the new assaults on democracy

To face our own history, we must be honest about it.

This reminds me of when Eisenhower invaded Normandy at 4:15 p.m. on a Friday so the markets wouldn't crash if D-Day failed
We're going to find out he's been working with one cartel to blow up the boats of another, aren't we?
And all the incentives steer toward corruption of one sort or another.
Non-snark query: Opinion pages and talk shows groan under the weight of righties—Karl Rove, Frank Luntz, Stephens + Douthat, this guy, half the people on TV—who have "warnings" and "constructive tips" for Dems. Does this ever happen the other way? Dems published on, "here's what GOP needs to do"?
“Democrats appear slow to recognize that ideologues on the left are attempting a hostile takeover of the party,” James Kirchick writes. In looking for a way to reclaim control, he argues, they could find inspiration in British history:
