It's been a long time since I played the old Gideon Zhi translation of Cave Story, but I'm pretty sure the Nicalis translation adds some references to 'ten years ago' that weren't in the Gideon Zhi version; implication is that Quote and Curly also defeated the last guy who got the Crown.
My current Theory of Conservatives is that they value hierarchy above all else, and you can see that (w/ varying levels of obfuscation) in all of their policy goals; both efforts to unroll the women's and civil rights movements and also pull-up-the-ladders demolishing of programs to help the poor.
To a hammer everything looks like a nail etc, but I do think that gender is the first and primary hierarchical division of human beings, and that much of the passion of the transphobic project comes from transphobes (correctly) assessing trans people’s threat to all other hierarchies.
