I haven't seen any other data on how many aircraft are affected by U.S. military exercises involving GPS interference, but here's my attempt to analyze a 13-day exercise at WSMR in May. 4000 civilian aircraft with major GPS jamming: 90% were commercial jets. 30% were *outside* posted NOTAM hours.

After cleaning up my analysis, I believe I underestimated: I think about 4000 civilian aircraft flights had no GPS for at least 5 minutes during their flight because of GPS jamming during NAVFEST 2026.

During the NOTAM window (03:00–06:29Z) 3,023 distinct flights (aircraft-days) with ≥5 minutes of bad GPS during the NOTAM window. Category Count Share Passenger jets (transport-cat ICAO type codes) 2,746 90.8% GA / business jet / turboprop / cargo 243 8.0% US military (hex / mil type / known mil callsign) 32 1.1% Unknown (no aircraft type recorded) 2 0.1% Outside the NOTAM window 1,610 distinct flights (aircraft-days) with ≥5 minutes of bad GPS outside the NOTAM window (rest of day). Category Count Share Passenger jets (transport-cat ICAO type codes) 1,247 77.5% GA / business jet / turboprop / cargo 249 15.5% US military (hex / mil type / known mil callsign) 110 6.8% Unknown (no aircraft type recorded) 4 0.2% Combined — any time during the 13-day advisory period 4,373 distinct flights (aircraft-days) with ≥5 minutes of bad GPS at any time. Bay Area friends: would you consider opening your home to these two cuddly cats? A friend found them behind a gas station. Their sibling, a black cat, got adopted, but it appears no one likes orange cats. They are being kept in a bathroom for the time being and need a home.

A friend of mine found these three kittens behind a Bay Area gas station. They are tame, vaccinated, and incredibly affectionate. Unfortunately, she's unable to keep them and I'm trying to find them a home. They are at risk of going to a shelter. Bay Area people, are you open to adopting?

It seems crude to put the cost in terms of dollars and cents, but it really matters! Resources being used to treat measles are resources that can't be used for other things. Medicaid dollars are extremely finite and other medical spending is already a huge strain. There are negatives besides death.

A quick word on Taco Bell: That's where we found the suspected lettuce, and it's not bc Taco Bell is gross. It's bc Taco Bell is REALLY GOOD at tracing product! Keeping track of exactly where they got their ingredients, & exactly what restaurants each shipment of ingredients went to!
