ICE and Border Patrol protect Flávio Bolsonaro, using umbrellas to shield him from being photographed. Trump’s government beats and shoots ordinary working-class people but gives special protection to international criminals tied to money laundering and human trafficking.

Flávio Bolsonaro fled Brazil in breach of a court travel ban, reaching Miami via Argentina and Ecuador. Reports link the escape to Argentine President Milei’s circle and a wealthy unnamed intermediary. Trump’s administration promised visas for his family.

Smoke from the devastating Los Angeles Eaton Fire last year exposed millions to very high levels of lead and other heavy metals, a new study found. The research adds to a growing body of evidence that wildfires in urban areas are uniquely toxic.

L.A. fires exposed millions to lead levels way above normal, study says

Using data from an advanced new air monitor that can detect individual chemicals in smoke, the research is the latest to underline the risk of toxins from urban blazes.

Le sigh. I've said before: as a former civil servant I know that government employees pride themselves on the quality and accuracy of their/our work. The lack of concern for these basic standards demonstrated by govt's' embrace of LLMs remains shocking. LLMs aren't ready for prime time, point final.

Another example of how the rollout of generative AI in government is failing. Canada’s AI translation tool GCtraduction has been making numerous errors in its first six months, particularly in English to French translations. Story here: ici.radio-canada.ca/nouvelle/229...

20. Impeachment is still a question, but there is no downside to subjecting Trump to endless grinding exposure. The weaker he gets politically, the more cracks there will be in his coalition. If you think he's unpopular now, wait until Robert Garcia, the Judiciary's ranking Democrat, gets going.

1. I am going to tell you why I think the Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee released on Monday a 53-page report presenting new evidence of Donald Trump’s involvement in Jeffrey Epstein’s sex-crime syndicate. But before I do, let me quote the report directly.

WOW -- Trump's riff about Jon Husted's ass is interrupted by somebody yelling, "Trump went on Epstein's plane!" The protester flips Trump fans the bird as he's hauled out Trump is then immediately interrupted by another protester!

Trump's rally in Ohio is totally out of hand. A third protester gets hauled out and she flips the bird to everyone. We're about 5 minutes in to this.

For scale, this estimate of over 600 million tons of CO2 emissions--just from new US data centers alone--is about twice the CO2 emissions of all the volcanoes on Earth

Chris Nelder@chrisnelder.bsky.social · 10h ago

Thank you @eroston.bsky.social and colleagues for highlighting the emissions of data centers, which hasn't gotten nearly enough attention IMO. (My piece on that is here: www.transitiontimes.net/tt-15-data-c...) 🎁🔗 www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

After the last time we negotiated a trade deal with Donald Trump, I don't actually see any value in signing another one with the guy. Any concessions Canada makes would be treated as binding and permanent; any commitments the USA makes will be reneged on whenever they feel like it.

A grand jury hears only the prosecution’s case. No defense attorney. No cross-examination. It’s essentially an infomercial for the prosecution. For D.C. grand jurors to STILL reject indictments against Hutchinson and others speaks volumes about how weak the cases brought by Trump’s DOJ were.

Tim Miller: "We have people in a detention center right now who were legal green card holders…There's a young man in the Dilley Detention Center in Texas…He was here legally. He did everything right. He was a green card holder. Rubio stripped his green card, and he's been in there for 200 days."

Britain's most prominent far-right activist Tommy Robinson has been found guilty of harassing two journalists. He was accused of telling one "I'm coming to get you" and "I'll be knocking at your door" to another after they published an article on him. He faces up to 10 years in prison.

Cool kind of citizen-science on carbon removal here. one detail that stuck out: "Our study shows that if we were to implement regenerative row cropping systems on a national scale, that it represents the best climate solution currently available. And farmers don’t lose money or productivity."

MTH@megt.bsky.social · 15h ago

Researchers reported that advanced regenerative farms stored nearly 40% more carbon in soil compared to the conventional farm controls and if all field crops used these methods, the equivalent of 1.5 years of US greenhouse gas emissions could be stored in soil. 🌎🌱 civileats.com/2026/10/26/s...
