This story is about so much more than one man and one company. It’s about the corruption of our British democracy through the subtle intermingling of the financial and political interests of our political class and the world’s most powerful corporations. open.substack.com/pub/zeteouk/...

Why Is a Labour Lord Now Paid by Palantir – and What Does it Mean For Our Democracy?

Ex-Labour deputy leader Tom Watson just got hired by a controversial US tech company seeking taxpayer-funded state contracts. The intermingling of politicians and corporations corrupts our democracy.

I think it's absolutely mad that today there's a *national news story* about 400 oil platform workers losing their jobs, and the government being blamed. 25% of the UK TV industry lost their jobs in the last 4 years and we never hear a peep about it! Some jobs are 'real jobs' I guess.

Suggested ground rules for the ‘debate’ on 'bad' cycling 🧵: 1) Cyclists or cycling advocates are not collectively responsible for the bad behaviour of individuals. What’s your actual point? You want less cycling or rules that have that effect? Be clear.

Unsurprising people are irritated. Cyclists are not responsible for the bad behaviour of other cyclists any more than drivers are. But they do feel exasperated by the endless ‘othering’ & media attacks on a mode that is incredibly low risk, in the context of 29,000 annual UK motor vehicle casualties

I don't like anyone breaking road law or behaving dangerously towards other road users, be they on foot, bike, motorcycle (regardless of energy source) or motor vehicle. They are all individuals though, and if you're painting cyclists as the major risk then you're not serious about road danger

I am honoured and humbled that crypto billionaire Ben Delo has given me £36 million without any expectation that if I get into power I will change the rules on crypto to make him even richer.

Crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne has now matched Ben Delo's record-breaking £36m donation to Reform, months after Nigel Farage's party promised to slash crypto sales taxes in half Reform UK is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the crypto industry www.adambienkov.co.uk/p/reform-uk-...

Reform UK Is Now a Wholly-Owned Subsidiary of the Corrupt Crypto Industry

As criminal investigations into Reform’s funding continue, much of the British press continues to give a free pass to Nigel Farage’s shady funders

According to a column in the Times, gangs of masked vigilantes blocking roads have demands which "represent a consensus view across the country". This is very patently utter bollocks. Daniel Thomas, the organiser, is a far-right racist thug. His views are not in any way mainstream.

Should anyone wonder that groups of angry white men in balaclavas have now started occupying Dover and blockading coaches sent to ship more and more men into this utterly negligent system? It’s astonishing it hasn’t happened sooner. I don’t mean I want to see gangs of masked bricklayers marauding around ports. I don’t. But I do think that if you have spent three years allowing masked Gaza activists to take over the streets because police are too scared to stop them, and five years blocking policies such as Rwanda that would actually stop the boats, you cannot start hyperventilating the moment working-class British men take to the streets non-violently, as in Dover if not Portsmouth, to make their feelings known.

The non-violence is obviously critical. This was not a riot, as we saw in 2024. It was not a campaign of harassment. It did not target random people. And unlike the Gaza marches or “stop oil” stunts, its demands represent a consensus view across the country and relate to something under the government’s direct control. They amount to: “Can the government please do what it promised and stop ferry-loads of undocumented foreign men arriving on our beaches to fill up regional hotels and roam around town centres?” They might reasonably also ask for the Home Office to stop handing out asylum to the thousands who falsely claim it while visiting on student or work visas.

If every statement about Extinction Rebellion had opened with "Climate change is the single biggest issue facing humanity, and we understand why people have legitimate concerns the world isn't doing enough to tackle it…" this approach might be *faintly* defensible. But they didn't, and it isn't.

They’re just pouring more fuel onto the fire. Why are the racists consistently called legitimate, whilst in a world that’s burning people who protest over climate change and genocide are not being afforded even a smidgeon of the same grace?

Some protestors showed "intimidating and thuggish behaviour" this weekend, Sarah Jones, the policing minister said.
But she added she did not seek to
"minimise" legitimate concerns people had about small boat crossings.
"This government has taken action to fix the broken system we inherited and crack down on the people smugglers," Jones said, pointing out that system-wide arrests were up 70%.

“Dutch people cycle an average of 2.6km each per day. If this pattern was replicated worldwide, annual carbon emissions would drop by 686 million tonnes. This mammoth figure exceeds the entire carbon footprint of most countries, including the UK, Canada, Saudi Arabia and Australia.” @euronews.com

Cycling like the Dutch would slash the world’s carbon footprint

If everybody cycled like the Dutch, we could offset the UK or Australia’s entire carbon footprint.

Urbanist Philomena Cunk. Some shop owners are terrified of bike lanes because they believe a person on a bicycle is physically incapable of holding currency. They assume that if you can't park a massive metal box right outside their door, the local economy will instantly collapse.

Nigel Farage regained his seat after a tough campaign against... a bin. A waste of everyone’s time, effort and money – all to run away from scrutiny. The investigation into Farage’s finances will now resume and only when that’s concluded will we get full transparency.
