By accident, he had discovered the first synthetic dye to be commercially produced & the 1st aniline dye synthesized by humans. It democratized, not malaria treatment, but ROYAL PURPLE, previously made by crushing sea snails, at great cost. Now, ANYONE could have purple garments.

Perkin was cleaning up after a failed synthesis that only produced black sludge when he noticed alcohol used to wash the glassware became intensely purple. This alcohol-soluble compound was named 'mauveine', for the French word for the mallow plant's purple blossom & the color was "Perkin Mauve."

Lotte Reiniger's silhouette animation in THE ADVENTURES OF PRINCE ACHMED (1926), the earliest surviving full-length animated feature. Her attention to detail was stunning, note the wobble of the chess piece.
Another of several impressive thick trees that I came across on a trail along a forest service unpaved road above Hope Valley, #California, off of Highway 88 in the #SierraNevada mountains. For #ThickTrunkTuesday. #ECK #landscapephotography #hiking #trails #nature #outdoors #trees #WestCoastKin
When you get two cats, how do they decide which one will have a tiny chirp like a pixie’s doorbell and which one will wail like the ghost of a jilted bride?
