A chilling reminder that things are not normal or okay, seen on our way to dinner last night, on the corner of Woolsey and Telegraph in Berkeley. (Alt text widget not working for me so: A sidewalk with “ICE TOOK A NEIGHBOR HERE” written on it in white chalk)

The terrible UX design on this new $25 eyeshadow palette that I just bought is galling. I didn’t notice the “face pigment” mention, and the warning/ key once you open it is hard to read. Who uses those colors elsewhere on their face? Also, if you must do this, why are they scattered around??
Thought I’d been skipping leg day because it’s exhausting and makes it harder to run afterwards, but I’d forgotten how weirdly territorial people get about the leg machines at the gym. Too many flavors of butt-hurt to deal with at once, I’ll stick with curtsy squats and donkey kicks, thanks.
Let’s be really clear about this lettuce situation: it’s not just the destruction of public health tracking, it’s also years and years of ending regulations that would have prevented conditions causing outbreaks in the first place, combined with climate change that makes them more likely to happen.
And if you read the thread, you find out it’s by the same company that made RealDolls.
I did it. This 🧵 is now a blog piece (no paywall, ever): jgcarpenter.com/blog.html?bl.... A New York high school is piloting a social female-gendered humanoid robot in a classroom this fall, billed as learning support for teenagers.
I think one reason data center outrage is so pronounced is people spent decades recycling and composting and otherwise scrimping to offset energy use and protect clean water, and the second we hit an inflection point for cheap electricity the banking industry said we’re taking all of it, fuck you
“We must especially beware of that small group of selfish men who would clip the wings of the American eagle in order to feather their own nests.” -FDR, 1941
Need a white guy to walk confidently into a federal building and delete all the student loans files
So you can just say you work at DOGE and pillage anything from our documents you want. The law truly doesn't exist anymore! Cool!
Scroll to "Was this page helpful?" Choose "No" and leave a comment telling them to restore the history of the trans Americans who helped start the LGBT+ rights movement in the US.
This is where you go to tell the National Park Service to restore the word "transgender" in its entry on the Stonewall monument. (Scroll down.)
I'm shocked at the number of things I have to google to understand what all y'all are talking about
This is an interesting story that has at its heart a message about how no-fault divorce saves (abusive) men’s lives.
So someone asked me to retell the story of the old lady that told me about killing her husband. Are we ready for a trip back in time to 1999? Some of you already know this story, but if you don't it is a wild ride. Apply all appropriate trigger warnings!
Walked the block to BART in a raincoat and umbrella and am absolutely soaked. This is my first day back at work after the flu and I am already shaking with the effort and too cold & wet but also too hot from the layers. This is fine. Water edition.
it has been said before but one problem is that when some people say 'the economy' they're talking about poor people affording food and housing, & when some other people say 'the economy' they're referring to a chart of how happy rich people are
The top two stories on Axios right now make kind of a funny juxtaposition. One is about how Johnson can’t avoid a shutdown without Democratic votes. Two is about how mad Dem reps are at their constituents for telling them to do something, when they’re in the minority and obviously can’t do anything.
Someone on Facebook asked advice for a coverup tattoo for a Gaiman quote (and fair enough!) and a tattoo artist got chatting and said they do so many HP coverups these days too. That made me very happy. Then they said: "I donate the money from hp coverups to trans advocacy groups" and I got happier.
Yes… erasure is key Like if white dudes were naturally superior then how come you gotta literally delete the competition
a good part of me thinks that in addition to everything else, the reason they are scrubbing these stories is they do not want disadvantaged kids to believe they can aspire to anything other than their designated “black” or “hispanic” or “woman” job
Recovering from the flu but still too weak to do much. Finally saw Challengers (not quite the poly drama I was lead to expect), and let the next random movie autoplay so ended up watching Blink Twice, which was pretty damn interesting & a 😚🤌 ending that did my soul good. Now it’s Bridal Nightmare…
Costco, which has come out saying it supports DEI, will make no changes to its existing programs, AND pays workers a minimum of $30/hour, is up 15% YTD. Target, which announced it is ending all DEI programs and has a minimum wage of $15-$24/hour, is down over 4%. Keep voting with your wallet.
A month ago I was charged $228 for a prescription. Finally got around to checking w/ insurance & they show the original claim reversed the same day (after I left CVS) & resubmitted to insurance for $55 8 days later. I have to fill out & mail in a paper form w/ my receipt for POSSIBLE reimbursement!
When we said “another world is possible,” maybe we should have been more specific.
If you’ve been calling keep it up, and if you haven’t now is a great time to start!!
Part 3, in which AOC explains that the calls we have been making to members of Congress this week are having an impact on Republicans and Democrats alike. Don’t let up. Keep making noise.
A good thread to explain exactly what this NIH cut means to medical research the tl;dr is that it massive cuts the money that pays the everyday operating costs of these centers read the whole thread for detail, though
1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%. I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

If your boss or company tells you to do something unethical: don't say yes. Make them write it down.
If they won't put it in writing yourself. Send an email (bcc yourself?): "Following our conversation on x date at x time regarding x, I am writing to clarify your directives. According to my notes, you instructed me to A, B, and C. If any of this is incorrect, please advise. I have some concerns."
