Decomp communities are a canary in the coal mine for romhacking communities. SMW central has been around for 25 years and there's deep human ties but we will continue to play fuckin hardball when it comes to AI because it will eat a place from the inside out otherwise.

A video game reverse engineering community has shut down because many games can now be trivially reverse engineered and decompiled with AI: "The community aspect of decompilation has been broken." www.404media.co/video-game-r...

For those watching the Mareepathon 2, don't worry, all of the Mareep with really long names that crashed the pen found new homes with trainers. This has had no unintended issues. (I continue to have fun with the community for www.twitch.tv/sebmal, this is art of a new generation)

The thing I try to articulate lately is the community-destroying aspects of this stuff. E.g. many of TCRF users find reverse-engineering / game modding playful and puzzling. Some people got started in REing by picking a favored game and struggling through it! It's not merely a collecion of trivia.

The wiki content is a byproduct. If you let guys bring AI powertools in, whether it's "correct" or not is unimportant. It's just disruptive. Like you're running a community garden and someone brings in a tractor and dump truck full of fertilizer. Sure, it'll grow bigger pumpkins, but at what cost?

These are the philosophical approaches I think worth pursuing b/c they don't get bogged down with fights over model capability etc. Set boundaries for the community, things to pursue beyond quantity of articles (how fast can we strip mine this resource?), these are durable things.

These users are responsible for every part of the entirety of the unholy sludge returned to them by the AI. They know, more or less, where it comes from. Saying they're devoid of artistic intent is, at this point, inaccurate. No, they do have intent. It just happens to be garbage and plagiarism.

A really annoying thing about being on the aroace spectrum is that no one really explains what the alternative is, they just assume you are too and of course understand implicitly what sexual/romantic attraction is. You're left with the vague feeling that no one actually understands this shit

when i was about 11 the coolest possible idea to me was megaman battle network. i loved sharkman.exe and wanted him to me my friend. now everything has some kind of digital assistant and it completely fucking sucks

screaming "trans rights free Palestine fuck all recruiters tricking the young gambling is a blight and i think we will look back at it the same way we do cigarettes now" at the start of every stream to give everyone an ad-free experience

CEO Dan Clancy says Twitch now uses AI to identify streamers that may not match a brand, since it now transcribes all streams for brand safety. It won't show ads on channels or content the AI believes don't match what the advertiser is trying to achieve.

The reason we have all these Claude-built recomp/decomp projects is because the AI dorks couldn't figure out how to shoehorn LLMs into games that were made 20 years ago so they all got together and had their agents do a little brainstorming and came up with a strategy to ruin yet another good thing.

Some people may be confused by the recurring conflict between the transgender community and Bluesky moderation staff. So here's a quick explainer: Every single decision, since day one, that the Bluesky staff ever made has been wrong
