Don't get me wrong... I'm grateful for any of the support we can get, but to have a funding org ask me to do a 5yr project in 2yrs on half the budget is kinda... damn. The only way for that to happen is the scope of what can be done gets dramatically cut.

There is not an industry on planet earth that could have gone >2 decades without a cost of living adjustment and be healthy. But that is what science is like now. I just got notice that some of our service costs are going up ~9%. Microscopes are up >300% in price over the last 2 decades. etc...

I don't think anyone has any idea of how thin the margins are in science. To have funding agencies or private foundations come back on a proposal and ask you to cut 10-20%, or more from a project simply means the work cannot be done. Modular grants have not been adjusted for inflation in >20yrs.

Palantir hoovering up European defence and NHS contracts whilst funnelling earnings back to the US to pay negligible corporate tax is a complete failure of digital sovereignty. European states must stop enriching tech firms that drain public coffers. Is it time to ban them? #FBPE

Palantir funnels earnings to US to avoid European taxes, report finds

A new study finds that Palantir, which boasts of high profit margins in the U.S., barely scrapes a margin in Europe, which helps slash its tax bill.

Here's another nose-stretcher from the Canadian Press. Some dude claims Canada is as anti-semitic as Nazi Germany and national media give him an unquestioned platform. Isn't there someone in an editorial newsroom somewhere who asks the obvious question "Why would we repost such bullshit?"

It gets worse. This so called US rabbi, representing the facist racist US & Isreal, and who recently met with Canadian officials is calling Canada Nazi Germany. www.ctvnews.ca/politics/art...

A co-author of mine just admitted using AI in a manuscript we're working on, and when I pressed as to why, he said he loved the back-and-forth "conversation." When I pushed further, it came out that he's really lonely. I'm more and more convinced that AI use is a symptom of deeper conditions.

The irony of an immigrant saying immigrants no longer have the right to come here is astounding. There isn’t a single positive trait I can point to that he has. Why doesn’t *he* remigrate, since he’s against immigrants so fucking much?
