If you learn about what long covid is and pay attention to the people around you, you're going to see people fully recover from the acute infection but develop textbook symptoms in the weeks-months following "the flu" and not put two and two together. Each infection raises the risk.

If you are in a doctors office coughing up a lung put on a damn mask. I just said aloud “can the person who’s coughing please put on a mask?” And while the person claimed “it’s just allergies” she did indeed do as I asked & went up to put on a mask. Imagine if receptionists had asked her immediatly?

The poltical pressure to capitulate on PPE is immense: on every individual who wears masks, on every event that requires it, on every social group that maintains it as a norm. The goal is to wipe every trace of what we remind them of from awareness. To mask is a regular practice in resistance.

Let’s not forget that the precautions we associate with Covid (clean air, PPE like masks) were *lessons* more of us learned in the earlier stages of the pandemic. Lessons that, applied, can protect from many other viral illnesses and create greater access for immunocompromised people.

SO much love for the covid cautious spaces that maintain their shared principles under enormous pressure to capitulate. When organizers commit to accessibility they send the message that the participation of disabled agitators is understood as critical.

Also: rape by deception is rape. If someone says they won't sleep with you because you lie to them all the time, and you lie to them that you're not lying to them anymore, in order to deceive them into being raped by you against their consent? Guess what! You're a rapist!

A very small and logical act of kindness most people can engage in is wearing a mask at their doctor’s office, even when it is not required. It’s a very anti-fascism and kindness driven action.

OK, OK, one more thing: In his book, On Tyranny, historian Timothy Snyder points out in lesson twelve that one of the most important ways we fight fascism is by building everyday connection with people. Eye contact, small talk, acts of kindness, gestures that show you are in shared community.

People really do not like when the group of people doing the dying point out that they're the ones doing the dying and they're doing so because of everyone's profound lack of care. So they get ignored, or worse, they get mocked.

Even in the absence of an apology, those leftists and libs who used this story to smear marginalized groups do not even feel compelled to share the bar owners’ statement. They would prefer to let the harmful propaganda stand than take any single gram of accountability.

There’s an old maxim about knowing someone’s character by how they treat waiters. Let’s also say you can know it by who they deem worthy of an apology.

Just gonna say in 24 hours I have not seen a single apology at any level by anyone who used the article as an excuse to bash Covid cautious people or queer people as a whole. I have not seen a word from people who gleefully referred to disabled people as “wreckers”. Not one single oops.

So I still mask like 90 % of the time. And it's funny how often people assume I mask because I either had a really gnarly covid infection or I'm disabled and neither is true. I'm kind of trying to avoid both (with no shade to the disability community)

Disabled people make society uncomfortable. Left or right…. It doesn’t matter. People want to believe it can’t happen to them. That if they become disabled there will be a magic “fix”. We challenge their denial, so they deny us solidarity and support. That’s ableism.

Some of you fail to understand that masking can be something you do because you believe in restricting risks for vulnerable people in your lives: it can be an act of community. Not always of course. But some people don’t mask because they’re disabled, they mask for this reason.
