Children: as problems in schools to be controlled; financial benefits to the state, but also burdens that must therefore be incentivised, for parents to have them; not in need of decent nutrition but still to be shamed for their bodies; & oh btw the Children’s Commissioner is sacked. FFS #nzpol

In times like these, it’s important to pay attention to the grand unifying narratives ideas are hooking on to. Like that children are there to be controlled by adults, like babies and birth are commodities to be controlled by the state, like citizenship is a state more valuable than non-citizenship.

So I am assuming Luxon has ruled out having Winston as a Minister in a future government he leads. Due to racism and diplomatic concerns? Or is that type of leadership reserved just for candidates who’ve already indicated they’ve resigned? www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

The FSU are explicitly anti Māori and explicitly anti women and explicitly anti trans So putting them on the medical council is an ideological act that WILL harm New Zealanders Minister Brown is not fit for office

The Free Speech Union having their CE and board member stand as candidates for Internet NZ and emailing their members to rank them 1 and 2 and not rank any other candidates feels like it should be more of a news story. It's antithetical to a genuine election and the democratic process.

NZ Greens have generated a handy list of all their policies - nice to know someone has a comprehensive plan that actually meets the moment, including, critically, “investing in and ensuring timely and equitable access” to public health. Thanks Greens for treating a crisis as something to respond to👇

12. Beyond anything about the film as a film, it was a terrible and entirely unnecessary choice to film the Trojan Horse sequence in occupied Dakhla, Western Sahara, without the consent of the indigenous population.

US COVlD Update, PMC, July 27, 2026 ▪️10 hot spots (see Alt text) ▪️Persistent high/very high levels in TX ▪️FL, AK, HI, & the continental northwest picking up ▪️1 in 198 people estimated actively infectious nationally ▪️1.57 million estimated weekly infections & rising (1/2)

The US has 10 hot spots. There are major outbreaks across much of Texas (high/very high). Houston, denoted by the light blue county in the southeast (Harris) has 1-3-week reporting lags at most sites so may be worse than noted. Hardin county, two counties over to the east/northeast, continues to experience BA.1 Omicron-level transmission. The Texas surge is bleeding into estimates for western Louisiana.
There are 9 other outbreaks: southeast Alaska (Juneau, high), Hawai’i (Honolulu and Kauai, high), north central Oregon through the Washington coast (high), western Nevada (Carson City, high), the Utah-Idaho border region (very high), southwestern Colorado (high/very high), southern Florida (high/v high), Atlantic City, New Jersey (high), and Grafton County, New Hampshire (high). The outbreaks in the Bay Area and Guam declined since last week. Note that the CDC state-level map shows no state median in the high/very high range, which is atypical. Higher levels tend to be more widespread.

#InternetNZ peeps! Board Member voting has opened! Eligible members should have an email. There is at least one meet the candidates event, but it is absolutely critical that you vote. **If you think you might forget, voting sooner rather than later is the best option.** bsky.app/profile/jpda...
