It took six years to build the first transcontinental railroad, starting with a groundbreaking in 1863 and ending with the joining of the tracks on May 10, 1869. Authorized by the Pacific Railroad Act of 1862, the massive infrastructure project spanned roughly 1,912 miles across the United States.

If you're looking for clarity on what today's announcement from Sound Transit on Ballard Link's timeline does and doesn't mean, I have you covered. www.theurbanist.org/full-ballard...

Yo, @anthropic.com. Why does Claude insist on encoding directory structures as "├──|└──|│" glyphs using white-space indentation, versus inline-bullets? I get that it's read-able, but does Claude do as good a job decoding those glyphs?

The objectivist who claims perfect access to truth and the nihilist who claims nothing means anything are mirror images: both are opting out of the hard work of navigating genuine uncertainty with rigor and humility.

As a German, I'll never fully understand the Third Reich worship of the American far right. They do understand that the Third Reich *lost*, right? That the tough, belligerent, ethnically pure master race got thoroughly defeated and its country conquered by a diverse multi-ethnic coalition?
