His name is Michael Sheen, and he is delightful.
Imagine Welsh Jar Jar Binks, he’s so powerful
THE DINK is very fun. Like last year's FACKHAM HALL, its biggest problem is that this is your classic Just Kinda Funny studio comedy that exists to run semi-constantly on TBS and/or Comedy Central and quietly earn legend status through rewatchability.
Has Ed Harris ever done an out-and-out *comedy* before? Asking because I'm watching (the perfectly pleasant) THE DINK and by a mile the best thing it has going on is Ed Harris delivering modern comedy nonsense patter with 110% Ed Harris gravelly intensity.

Kirsten Dunst hasn't gone without recognition, but I still think she's under-appreciated for her skill at playing characters who are truly, deeply, spiritually Done With This Shit, with "this shit" usually being "men".

The dead bear witness in ‘The Odyssey’
Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" reimagines Homer's epic as a meditation on imperial decline, memory, and the human cost of heroism.

The Tangled show’s animation team didn’t painstakingly hand-draw this 2D ‘camera’ rotation just so you could tell me that A/I is "inevitable."
The Wachowski sisters didn't use 120 cameras to film one shot just so you could tell me that AI is "inevitable."
Of all the little things that inevitably don't end up fitting in the final draft of a profile, this is the bit I loved the most

oh wow that's so crazy that x-men resurrected the character who was dead, totally dead, eternally dead, the internet was in full crisis mode because of how dead they were, we're never going to be able to get past how dead they are, anyway they're back now who cares
low-key find the aftermath of the JFK assassination very morbidly funny because LHO had to try to figure out an escape plan on the fly bc he never expected to get that far he just manages to initially evade authorities by stumbling around haplessly

hot damn. now that's what I call film criticism vol. 8.
"If this is what it takes to get a rom-com greenlit these days, maybe we should just let them die. Death with dignity is surely a better fate for the genre than fascist capitulation." Zero stars for this piece of shit movie. My review of ONE NIGHT ONLY for @ebertvoices.bsky.social
This is an outstanding line and he should keep using it.
El-Sayed attacked Rogers as a Trump stooge and accused Republicans of trying to use his faith and full name - Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed - to scare voters. "My name is not the reason you can't afford your groceries," he said. "You know what is? Their BS policies." www.reuters.com/world/us/pro...
“if we are supposed to believe that the film is making some subversive statement about the state of sex and bodily autonomy in this country, it cannot end with its leads embracing their chains. That’s just warmed-over conservatism running around in sheep’s clothing” By @oldfilmsflicker.bsky.social
One Night Only review: Pull out from this sex-negative rom-com

considering how well things are going in new york, the lesson here is clear: fuck these people
New York City’s business elites are long accustomed to direct access to City Hall, where even Democratic mayors felt the need to court the city’s wealthiest and most influential corporate leaders. That access is getting shredded by Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Daaaamn. “AI is the asbestos we're shovelling into the walls of our technological society. Our descendants will spend generations digging it out again, and the longer the bubble goes on without popping, the longer it will take to repair the damage." www.thenerve.news/p/cory-docto...

Establishment Dems outspent something like 10:1 in their races. The articles coming out paint Progressive wins as eking by, but when you look at how high the mountain was, yeah man, cope.
The more I think about the various choices surrounding the Sadie Sink character, the more sour I get. Improved cinematography and VFX will spare this movie the usual 'fake movie' MCU critique, but the shared universe still results in narrative copouts and cheats that are frankly inexcusable.
Spent the first half of BRAND NEW DAY thinking, "Holy shit! They've finally made a great Spidey movie!" And I spent the second half thinking, "Goddamnit Feige just cannot help himself". That it gets across the finish line at all is a real testament to Holland and the sprawling ensemble around him.
Matt Smith signed up for HOUSE OF THE DRAGON entirely because they'd already hired Paddy and he figured that was an automatic mark of quality.
I've never once seen Paddy Considine show up in a movie and not thought to myself "at least I know this movie is reliable."
I know there's some complaints that the climax of this one goes a little too MCU-safe CGI overload, but I'm sorry man Shang-Chi merging the distinctive fighting styles of his father and mother into a new whole in order to explode a demon kaiju from the inside is some goddamn poetic cinema.
Rewatching SHANG-CHI, surprised to remember that it anticipates how gracefully DDC captures a truly 'comic book' feel to a shared universe. Stuff like the throwaway appearances by Extremis users, the Wong/Abomination drop-in, those feel like glimpses of a huge continuing world vs. disposable cameos.
Fuck off Eli.
Eli Roth confirms that generative AI was used in his new horror film ‘ICE CREAM MAN’. “It was an opportunity where technology and creativity came together to help bring my vision for the film to life.” (Source: www.polygon.com/eli-roth-ice...)
