I like this notetaking example. it is a good case of how gender works. Notetaking has never been about producing a transcript. It is a bureaucratic skill in the 20th c. organixarion because it is SENSEMAKING. Those women socialized to take notes? They have been doing men’s metacognition for them

Notetaking in meetings is tiny case in point - used to be some predictable social assumptions who would do it; now anyone can offer to do ”notetaking” by turning on the AI listener. Further interesting scenario is human recollection / notes (taken by habit by a person) conflict with AI summary

I'd like to add that because of this there is *one* use case for AI transcription: recording the meeting so that you can turn it into compact, meaningful notes with a to-do list after the meeting is over.

Anyway, your problem isn‘t finding the time to take notes. The problem is that taking notes is thinking and thinking has to be done by someone. women have been doing a lot of metacognition that looks like a task when it’s really thinking.

I’d like to make it clear for all the people following me what the sheer gravity of the news is. Without this facility we can’t ensure constant communication with spacecraft beyond Earth orbit. If this facility is off-line, the Artemis program cannot send a crew to the Moon.

I think the proof that this isn’t strictly a EV problem outside of a vacuum is that if you asked this question with the exact same ratio of numbers but asked: A) $50/$1k B) $50k/$1M C) $50M/$1B I’d bet you see different answers for each. As numbers shrink, people become more willing to flip.

This is Comet Leonard during its approach to the Sun, imaged by Gerald Rhemann on Christmas Day 2021. The comet had been discovered earlier that year, and broke apart in 2022. This photo won the overall prize for Rhemann of the Royal Observatory Greenwich's Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2022.

A bright point of light at the top of the image is the comet's nucleus; the comet's gas and dust tails trail from the nucleus to the bottom of the image. Complex structures in the dust tail result from outbursts from the nucleus as it undergoes solar heating.

Beauty from the north shore of Lake Superior at Iona’s Beach Scientific and Natural Area. The beach is composed of smooth pink rhyolite pebbles and is known as a singing beach. When the waves are just right, a musical tinkling sound can be heard as water trickles through the stones.

A sunlit beach of smooth pink pebbles circles to the left before arcing back to the right while turning into pink Rhyolite cliffs topped with green in the distance. The lake is shades of blue that darken with distance, with a bank of fog coming in to touch the distant cliffs. The sky is clear blue with a hint of finger.White daisies with golden eyes, orange hawkweed, and unidentified yellow wildflowers of various types along a trail near Iona’s Beach.Orange hawkweed, and a yellow wildflower I think is Tall Buttercup along a trail near Iona’s Beach. Both non-native, alas, but still a joy to view.More buttercups and daisies, and a couple tall stems with umbrella-like clusters of white flowers.
