honestly can't stress enough, as a former family law attorney, how depressingly common Max Miller's behavior and words are, right down to the petty fixation on custody procedure and rules when faced with allegations of shocking violence.

And how rarely those things happen to abusers, esp. high-status white male abusers.
Things I and friends have done to calm an angry abusive man from further escalating and killing us or our children: -Smiled -Kept normal schedules in order not to trigger a fight -Appeased with kind acts (cooking, cleaning, favors) -Forced friendly tones and words

Appropriate air quotes because the most infuriating part about Americans debating "lockdown" is that it simply never happened. Having to pick up your Applebees and eat it on the sectional does not count. There wasn't even a brief moment where "everything" was closed. That's not real.

had a nice little cry tonight that my kid will remember her 10th summer as the one where we had to stay inside for weeks because of the smoke and it hurt to breathe while she was trying to sleep, vs my own 10th summer where my biggest issue was that sometimes the crickets were too loud at bedtime.
