This letter I received is what this campaign is all about. Susan Collins is out of touch with what Mainers are going through — and she’s making it worse by rubber-stamping Donald Trump’s agenda...

Asked to name a time she successfully stood up to Pres. Donald Trump, Susan Collins pointed to her failed effort to block Pete Hegseth's confirmation. Troy Jackson challenged her claims of independence during their fourth and final Senate debate.

Yeah, the idea that Susan Collins rallied Republicans to oppose Hegseth -- even unsuccessfully -- only makes sense if you ignore what she actually said at the time. She also voted FOR the motion to proceed on his nomination. Not something you do if you're trying to defeat the guy! #MEpolitics

After Collins met w/ Hegseth, she said, "I'm not surprised that a group of service members who were under his leadership have written to endorse his nomination," but said she'd wait to decide until "other parts of the process" play out (NewsCenter ME 12/12/24). She always waits for the vote count.

Excellent piece - the guarantee of Jewish safety is the persistence of America as a liberal democracy committed to religious pluralism, not having as few people in Congress as possible willing to criticize the Israeli government. newrepublic.com/article/2164...

The security of Jewish Americans depends on the constitutional order—and the defeat of the MAGA movement that threatens to destroy it.

Just to note how stupid this system is...we just learned that 15 days ago, the Dept of Education awarded a brief contract to consulting firm Accenture to oversee sending emails to student debtors. It's a $350M contract. So it costs more to *service* the debt than to cancel it.

We're just generally not very good at identifying who the audience is for a particular communication, even when it's jumping right out at us. And because we're now accustomed to tailored media algorithms, we assume we're the audience for most things, and they're just failing to reach us.

In addition to the broader literacy crisis, we're also in a power literacy crisis. Many folks deeply misunderstand how political power works, who has it, and how to build it. And all of that is happening while more folks are using the language of organizing without grasping its most basic tenets.

New: Accenture has told employees it will only fund $29 per month of Claude use. Meaning that employees who often spend as much as $1,000 a month are now scrambling to find ways to keep access to the tool. A sign of the continuing crack down of AI www.404media.co/accenture-te...

Accenture Tells Employees They Can Now Spend Only $29 on Claude Per Month

This is an absurd prayer for relief. I've never seen anything like this. I don't even understand how you can ask for this, and I can't imagine this goes anywhere beyond creating confusion. It's an extremely irresponsible action that further undermines the legitimacy of the Justice Department.

In any event, I actually answer your four questions similar to how you do yourself. I just think that the *aggreed upon downsides* are not really downsides, when understood properly. It's not a "so what" answer. It's a "no, actually this might be better" answer.

if people do not like a 200, or 300, or whatever person Supreme Court, supported by 1,000 memeber lower courts, then, perhaps, the judicary could be taught to MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS and rid us of their unelected supremacy. So, no race to the bottom. Just democracy, *by any means necessary.*

I disagree, categorically, that adding additional justices, even in a "tit-for-tat" way, is a "race to the bottom." I think having a great many *more* judges is actually good for democracy, representation, ethics, and limiting the importance and power of any individual judge. Furthermore...

Her "immigration status" is that she's been a US citizen longer than either Melania Trump or Elon Musk. The Democrats SHOULD use this opportunity for 100% solidarity with one of their own, and throw the fucking kitchen sink at Trump and his Republicans. I doubt they will but would LOVE to be wrong.
