While I think Secret Samadhi is a bit of a letdown, that is only because Throwing Copper is so good. So many well-crafted bangers. Selling the Drama, Iris, All Over You, T.B.D., Pillar of Davidson, Horses. Lightning Crashes was all over MTV that year.

From Flowers's brief on behalf of Richard Epstein in the birthright case: We must always remember that the framers were deeply racist, so their laws should be interpreted as being similarly racist.

It is important to bear in mind that America, at the time of ratification, labored under intense racial prejudices. This very Court held that the right to vote is not among the privileges or immunities of American citizens, thereby allowing States to deny the suffrage to women and non-whites. See Minor v. Happersett, 88 U.S. 162, 171 (1874). And Congress did not extend the naturalization laws to individuals of African descent until 1870, two years post-ratification. Even then, the laws did not allow other non-whites to apply for naturalization. It is not likely that the American people 15 understood the Fourteenth Amendment as automatically conferring citizenship on the children of aliens who, owing to racial prejudice, Congress did not deem worthy of naturalization.
