The concrete, practical problem with compromising and softening arcade game structure out of fear of backlash (which is legitimate) is that it means devs dont get the feedback needed to figure out how to make that structure palateable without undermining it

You take a game trying so hard in its era to havr an art style and feel realistic or cutting edge and reduce it to looking like a lego playset.
