For the past two years there has been an escalating trend of companies obfuscating layoffs by doing whatever they can to avoid announcing them, then when they have to speak publicly about them using language to make it as unclear as possible, avoiding the word "layoffs", or avoiding hard numbers.

“this person is bad so their work was always bad” is also a really dangerous view to take because it leads to - unconscious or not - a bias towards “but I do like this other person’s work, ergo they must be a good person” which, as we have seen over and over, is simply not true
What happens a lot on social media is when someone (Warren Ellis, Neil Gaiman now Ed Brubaker) has allegations thrown at them people tend to leap out the woodwork saying "their work was never good." That helps no one as it's irrelevant. What matters is their actions and what they did.
