I’m so happy this post didn’t age well and was even partially outdated before I even thought it!
By laws of proportionality, this result should cause at least as much infighting and finger pointing among alt-centrists than any leftist ever did. Maybe they can burn off their excess energy Spider-Man pointing at each other until we grow up and coalesce before November.
They are assholes and hypocrites who want to benefit from our side being better at democracy. That’s fine. That’s not the right right now. 60 Dems you disagree with sometimes is better than 40 you agree with all the time. No more fucking around. We pick this back up in December.
It is precisely because I believe my faction of the party is better than the DSA faction that I don’t really have a lot of time for people acting like it’s acceptable not to vote for the Democrat in the general. If you live in Michigan, you gotta vote - and convince others to vote - for El-Sayed.
Weird how “the establishment” backs a winner so quickly, especially when “the establishment” wasn’t as settled on “its” preferred candidate.
UPDATE: many have learned bsky.app/profile/alex...
Hopefully this means Dems are feeling pressure to quickly consolidate & let bygones be bygones
Body isn't even cold yet
I meant to post this last night but if you’re mad about any of the primary results you got 24 hours to bleed, try not to say anything you’ll regret in 48, and then it’s Blue No Matter Who.
my strong prior about michigan btw is that the vast majority of primary voters were actually happy to vote for either candidate in the general and will consolidate quite easily behind el-sayed just like they are coalescing behind talarico in texas online freakouts are not real life

Even “Hey Didn’t You Used to be NPR??” got it right
Progressives didn’t get the big election night they wanted
It depresses me that I can’t rule out Adam Jentleson as the “national political operative.”
Not one but two unnamed “Democratic operatives” are your sources of the “deep divisions.” You’re certainly committed to the bit.
My takeaway from not just last night but the past decade or so is maybe stop pretending we have solid polling and baseline expectations for Michigan primaries?
Respectfully, if you're not from Detroit or have never set foot in the city, please don't speak negatively about our politics or our people. Thanks.
Neither faction is dominant, securing a Senate and House majority will rest on voters from both backing candidates of each.
My ice-cold boring take that will definitely not go viral is that a primary result with a margin of victory of roughly 1 percent tells you precisely nothing about The Future Of The Party.
You can/should read Emily Wilson's latest take on the Odyssey, but I'm logging on to convey my hairdresser's reaction. She was AGHAST that Nolan, with his million $ budget, gave Matt Damon ONLY 6 hair extensions. As a result, his hair did not blow around properly, & that ruined the film for her.
Politico is not your friend, whichever part of the Big Tent you’re in. Their only focus is to “deepen divisions” for clicks. Don’t jump when they say jump. Primary over. Vote Blue to Beat You Know Who.

This sounds great until you recall Hogg left the DNC in a hissy fit while the decidedly not geriatric (and not white dude) Malcolm Kenyatta and Shasti Conrad stuck around to become vice chairs.
David Hogg, a survivor of the Parkland High School shooting who co-founded the progressive youth group Leaders We Deserve, is calling for radical change in the "geriatric" Democratic Party. n.pr/4bmZYNm
I thought I lost the ability to be negatively surprised by The Atlantic but having Michael Powell take on this topic is the one time just using generative AI instead would have been far safer.
It was inevitable that reactionary centrists would turn against harm reduction and call for a return to mass incarceration
A Democratic president is going to end the war at some point after January 2029 and get absolutely assailed by the mainstream press over it.
Everyone realizes the war isn’t going to be over by midterms right
and this will happen after a 2028 campaign where the Democrat is painted as the pro-Iran and pro-Israel candidate and Vance or Rubio or whichever Republican is painted as the anti-war candidate.

Then again, the original books were a highly fictionalized account of what was in many ways a bleak existence. They were essentially rewritten by a foundational figure of the Libertarian Party, Rose Wilder Lane. So maybe the TV program is truer. www.history.com/articles/lit...
