I was thinking, fondly, of boolean search yesterday. not only is it a superior way to query Internet archives, it’s also an example of academia and k-12 being as nimble and tech forward as AI boosters claim they want us to be. We pivoted very efficiently on Google search. And now it’s dead.

Their best defense against the growing challenge from the left would be simply to meet the moment and act more aggressively against Trump. If they just did that, half the energy behind DSA challenges would dissipate and they'd be safe. But no, they'd rather punch left in a panic.

The first time I went to a food pantry I felt shame and that I didn't deserve help. I still go, but now I'm angry and ashamed that we waste as much as we do, and that the people with the least get some of the worst, and are expected to make do with too little, and prostrate themselves more for it.

In the survey, 29% of states identified narrowing eligibility policies as a potential risk and 11% saw a wholesale withdrawal from SNAP as a potential risk. Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, a Republican, said churches, food banks and other organizations would ensure that people are fed there. Stitt, the chair of the bipartisan National Governors Association, said he believes federal programs like SNAP are operated with “a lot of fraud and abuse.” He also suggested that the program had become too seamless, with cards that resemble credit cards allowing recipients to easily purchase groceries. **“Maybe it’s going back to the day where there was a little stigma attached and you had to actually go to a food bank and pick up commodity cheese and commodity groceries, and it had a little stigma so you were a little bit embarrassed,”** he told Stateline. “Maybe we should go back to a little bit of that instead of just making it so easy…”

The flowers I made as prizes for #SGDQ2026 didn't get where they needed to go because of a shipping error, so I made new ones and sent them via a different shipper. Please. I hope they get there this time. I NEED them to be seen by fellow nerds.

When utilized in literature review, LLMs consistently 1. fail to mention female authors in female-led literatures, 2. insist that men are more influential or more heavily cited when this is contradicted by objective citation counts, and 3. attribute women’s work to hallucinated male scholars.
