In the restaurant’s defense, my brother was wearing a cowboy hat
Brother in law got racially profiled (asked for the full level of spice at the Chinese noodle restaurant but they gave him white boy level spice anyway)

I don't wish ill on anybody! But as ill is happening to Mitch McConnel anyway, I am happy
Was going to text a pic of my view tonight to a friend and reference a Heinlein book, but my brain kind of blanked. So I nearly sent this with the caption “The Moon is a dumb bitch”
I know the pain meds are still working on me though because I saw an ad for “World Horse Welfare” and was genuinely confused as to why there was a non-profit campaigning for equine UBI
I’m not on social media much these days so it’s always fun to check in on Adam’s bsky feed and see them reporting on everything I’ve introduced them to recently
Oldest thing I own is probably my American first edition of TS Elliot’s The Wasteland. Oldest thing I own that I use regularly is probably my vintage sideboard from the 70s.
I always like thinking about: what is the oldest object you regularly use, the oldest thing you're using in your normal everyday life
Demand IS high, but it’s not exponential. Games are getting cancelled because they won’t generate billions of dollars. The profit floor required by PE is now too high; that doesn’t mean there’s no profit. As to the rest of it:
If the industry stopped producing the games consumers demand there should be plenty of opportunities for new studios producing easy to sell games. Where are they? And why is there still a flood of games exceeding demand if “the industry” cancels games despite demand?
This is fun! My go-to is Mind Games J’Adoube. It’s a really tart pomegranate with a little citrus over a base note of leather. There’s apparently some patchouli in it, but thankfully I can’t smell it. My other fave is Diptyque Eau Duelle, which is an unsweet vanilla spiced with pink peppercorn.
I wanna gather up all the game devs into perfume/fragrance and sit them in a room together to chat because I have a hunch they have some amazing collections and recommendations
Yes! I meant PE not VC but I was v sleepy. VC has been in games for a long time now and has its own issues but nothing as gangrenous as PE
I agree with the overall point, but as a pedantic aside, it's private equity rather than venture capital. Venture capital tries to grow startups and small companies hoping for a breakout success (think shark tank) Private equity buys and guts companies, then tries to sell them for a profit
The reason the game industry keeps laying people off and canceling games despite consumer appetite is because the game industry doesn’t exist any more. It’s been subsumed into the black hole of venture capital, which deliberately believes there is value in treating every industry the same.

1/3 of the game industry has lost their job in the last two years. Ubisoft closed two more studios today. Everyone is out of work. To that end I'm starting a new bundle to benefit a layoffs hardship fund. Game devs: please consider submitting your PAID games to the bundle, which will launch in July.

A game jam from 2026-06-10 to 2026-06-24 hosted by Necrosoft Games. PREMISE: The game industry has a problem. Too many people are out of work (reports say 33% of the industry lost their jobs in the la...

While it is true that to save the future we must learn about the past, I will never enjoy the annual “Hi I’m a grad student and I’m doing my thesis, can I interview you about one of the more traumatic periods of your adult life” emails
I think every politician who proposes to ban anything on the internet for teens should be required to propose, as an alternate, a free and accessible and all weather space for teens to hang out in their own hometown
I have really nice Bluetooth earbuds but I can never bring myself to wear them when I’ve got to go somewhere because I need to maintain situational awareness at all times
When the waiter tells you "Are you sure, it is very spicy":
I think when you say shit online, that should be really how you feel. It is possible to have tough conversations in person but people don’t want to justify their opinions or face that maybe they misjudged based on bad/incomplete info. I think it’s ok to disagree on some things but apparently not.
Still thinking about our Turkish cabbie yesterday ranting about how America was the greatest country in the world and how mind boggling it is that nobody in power is doing anything about Trump. “It’s like giving the keys to a Ferrari to a stupid, drunk baby.”
Hello friends! I am trying to pay off the credit card debt from 8 months without income in 2023. If you missed this when it happened, this thread talks about it. The card that has been carrying this debt for 16% APR will soon be toast. Thank you for everything. PayPal.me/thelionmachine

Got notice from my credit card that my card with the outstanding student loan debt is being folded into a card with much worse APR. In July. Seems like a stretch, there is just over $11,000 on that card that is from The Semester With No Income. Can you help us get there? Paypal.me/thelionmachine

UPDATE: I have been redeemed by Adam asking me why people keep putting “Kiss From A Rose” in Batman-related videos, despite the fact that we spent our anniversary 5 years ago staycationing in a hotel suite watching all the old Batman movies, INCLUDING Batman Forever
Adam just explained to me that the Jake Gyllenhaal movie Nightcrawler (which I have never seen) was about an unethical journalist and not, as I assumed, an X-Men origin story.

I had one YouTube video crack 100K views and the second it started blowing up, I got a deluge of comments complaining about my vocal fry - a thing that had never been mentioned to me in 30-ish years of regular public speaking experience, including competitions. Didn’t even realize I had it!
“All of this is tied up culturally. You never read anything in the press about how men’s voices are annoying.” Vocal fry is more common in men, actually, find scientists | New Scientist share.google/PHKxVo38TIr1...
gwen does fantastic work as usual on some of the 401,000 trans people who’ve had to flee hostile territory in their own country in the past 18 months.
NEW: Seattle might declare a civil emergency to help LGBTQ (mostly trans) people fleeing red states, so I looked for a Texas angle. An organizer told me that Texas is #1 among trans people looking to relocate: "The baseline hostility to their existence is unbearable." www.chron.com/culture/arti...
What does he even want Farage to say that he's not already saying for free, "you're funny"?
Nigel Farage tells The Sun's Harry Cole that Elon Musk offered to give Reform loads of money "if we said certain things" and he refused. "I can't be bought." Two things: 1. This is an allegation of attempted bribery. Very serious. 2. It shows the obvious: donors expect something for their money.
