On our movie nights we've been watching 90s movies and tonight we selected Beethoven. My memory of this movie was, grumpy dad comes around to goofy giant dog. I forgot about how entirely messed up it is??!

My 9yo recently learned how to use the printer and has been terrorizing the apartment with various cutouts. This morning I went to the bathroom and was jumpscared by the rock

A cutout of Elon Musk's head taped onto a holographic picture of GokuRick Astley is never gonna let you down, much like the 3m hook his photo is taped onA cutout photo of The Rock staring intensely, taped right across from the toilet

Generative AI is harmful to the environment, to our communities, and to our culture! Say no to Gen AI - and let everyone know! Here's how: -opt out as a streamer, chatter, or lurker - use tags - use your title - pin a message informing others how to opt out - discuss this with the community!

Twitch won't label which streams are and aren't using AI, so streamers are doing it themselves aftermath.site/twitch-amazon-...

a big red "no AI" sign

"Nobody is good or trash. We just all have good days and bad days." "I don't judge people for being gay if that's who they are. I only judge people for calling other people gay as a joke. And I'm not here to argue about it so if you want to leave I'm fine" My kid in the fortnite voice chat 😭

This looked like a fun weekend read until I went on Pagebound to look at reviews and saw that the author thought it would be "funny" to hate on AI by...using chatgpt to write part of the book? (She describes this in the author's note as though it is righteous). Back it went to the library.

Cover of Femme Feral by Sam Beckbessinger. Bright yellow with the title in all caps red letters, with a blue furry hand with red claws clawing through the page.

SEEKING RECS! Apropos of ongoing personal fuckery, I would love to get reading + watching + research recs from folks navigating elder care. My folks have recently ~ crossed a threshold ~ and I'm hoping to get ahead of the stuff that's coming for my fam. What helped you to navigage this stuff?

Today I decided to count how many unsolicited political texts I've received so far this month. Since August 1 I have received 90 texts unrelated to any elections in my state. I used to do political texting for a job, so I'm more understanding than most, but I'm ready to throw my phone in the sea

Tonight near the pool we saw hundreds of dragonflies flying around! And then a minute later, dozens of birds overhead (I couldn't identify them because they were very high, but some kind of tern or gull?). It was surreal! I'm so grateful for all the beauty we have here, even in the cities.

My son did his first 5k today! We did the Breath of Hope 5k run/walk with some coworkers and their families. It was a nice walk and we saw so many good dogs, including some therapy dogs who had their own trading cards!

Sailboats float peacefully on a still lake under a bright blue sky.Walkers and runners gather at the lake harriet bandshell to honor and remember people who fought or are fighting lung cancer. A sea of wooden benches leads to a grayish blue castle looking stage structure in front of a lake.

I started playing Wytchwood last night and I'm in love with it. Cute, creepy, funny, witchy, well-paced. The art is lovely. Material gathering is never too tedious or complicated. Puzzles/quests are engaging but not difficult and the menus do the right amount of handholding. All around enjoyable.

This weekend is my neighborhood-wide garage sale but I don't want to sit out there all day, so I just arranged some items by my garage with a free sign. My stuff has been flying so I went to put some more things out, only to find that someone had added a bunch of their own stuff. Lol people are wild

8 years, 7 states, 23 new-to-me state park visits, 18 camping trips, 5 road trips, countless day trips, 1 kid, 1 move, 100,000 miles, 0 problems. I know we hate cars here- mostly i do too- but I'm grateful for all the places I've gone with this mazda and how reliable it's been.

Car odometer showing 100,000 miles (and overdue service, but i fixed that today).

Smart people of bluesky: my son is wondering, if everyone on earth got together as closely as possible and screamed as loud as they could at the exact same time, approximately how loud would it be and how far up in the air would you be able to hear it?

Filling out parent surveys for my kid's ADHD diagnosis was a funny experience bc why are you asking me, an extremely neurodivergent weirdo, if my son's behavior is average or not? If one of us starts a verbal stim the other one will finish it from across the house. We are weird idk what to tell you

1 in 61 people nationwide are under some form of correctional control — and the vast majority of them are on probation or parole. Mass punishment in the U.S. is off the charts, even in "progressive" states.

Graph showing mass punishment rates by state as of 2026. It compares combined incarceration and community supervision across U.S. states, with high rates near 3,000 per 100,000 on the left falling to about 814 on the right, highlighting Minnesota (1,830), Alaska (1,589), and Massachusetts (814).

I'm considering ditching Windows again. Back in the day I used Ubuntu for a while, but that was before I did much gaming. Some basic googling leads me to think it'll be fine, but I'm curious if anyone has thoughts. I'm reading anticheat doesn't work right, but my main games don't use it

I'm working my way through a ladies auxiliary cookbook from 1997 that I found in a little free library in Wisconsin. I thought Karen here was full of crap, because this recipe is so simple, but I gotta hand it to her. My kid downed a fourth of the pan already (I added cardamom and a little nutmeg)

Apple crumble: 4c sliced apples, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 7 tablespoons butter, 1/2 cup water, 1 cup sugar, 3/4 cup flour. Butter a baking dish. Add apples and pour water over them. Blend sugar, flour, cinnamon and butter together until crumbly. Spread over apples and bake uncovered at 350 for 30 minutes.

I recently started a fund to provide daily comfort, mobility and accessibility items for people with energy limiting conditions. If you'd like to gift someone a more comfortable day, I have a way to contribute. I'm turning 39 today, so it'd be fun to get up to $390! chuffed.org/project/comf...
