I’m gonna be honest with you all, if “AI” has done anything, it’s changed my perspective insofar as it makes me respect people less in general. A lot less. It has revealed an uncountable number of losers who will shamelessly lie, cheat and steal, and still never amount to anything.
zero sense of shame. these people live among us, somehow.
You can/should read Emily Wilson's latest take on the Odyssey, but I'm logging on to convey my hairdresser's reaction. She was AGHAST that Nolan, with his million $ budget, gave Matt Damon ONLY 6 hair extensions. As a result, his hair did not blow around properly, & that ruined the film for her.
"it looks like you're using an adblocker to visit our site." yep! ha ha! it rocks!
He may ride forever ‘neath the streets of Boston He’s the man who never returned
the odyssey is a realistic depiction of what it’s like when you’re trying to get home to your girl at 2 am on the mta. it’s always some shit
Today is "Soft Rains Day" for those who remember this haunting 1950 Ray Bradbury piece. It's classic Bradbury, eerily accurate w/ its predictions in some respects (looking at you, Alexa), and well worth a few moments of your day to read if you're so inclined.
Soft Rains Day. "Today is August 4, 2026, in the city of Allendale, California. Today is Mr. Featherstone's birthday. Today is the anniversary of Tilita's marriage. Insurance is payable, as are the water, gas, and light bills." RIP Ray Bradbury, 1920-2012
A PSA to my fellow cis people who are (or want to believe they are) trans allies If you are getting pushback from trans people and your reaction is to be all “no! not me! I’m one of the good ones!” please remember that “being one of the good ones” is something you DO, not something you ARE
You open up the clock and inside is the broken machinery of the universe. You don't have time for this
"I'm entitled to whatever I want whenever I want it for any reason and I don't care what satisfying these urges does to me or the world" well okay dude, seems like there's something deeper going on here, but that's just my take

every social media site is actually just threads and it's a spectrum of how threads they are. threads isn't the most threads -- facebook is.
Super useful. I figure a lot of us here in the Sky know this stuff already, but it might be handy to hand to parents, grandparents and pals who are less technically minded. www.librarian.net/NoToAI/

Enjoying the best adaptation of The Odyssey, and by that I mean all the comics that @smbccomics.bsky.social made about it.
"There's so many fuckable elf princes..." "This is the Feywild, that's like half the population." #TyrannyDnd
With all the Odyssey talk going on, my take is I don't want folklore/myth movies "if they were real" I want more surreal myth movies. I want The Fall, The Green Knight, Pan's Labyrinth, Mirrormask. I want movies where weird dream shit be happening and the world feels eerie and unhinged.

I realized the other day that I feel about people who use ChatGPT etc the same way I feel about people who own guns. I instantly respect them less (which is not to say I lose all respect, but...it goes down for sure) and I also trust them MUCH less. For different reasons, to be sure, but still.

My main takeaway was that trying to scientifically define biologically distinct competition categories of “women” and “men” is always going to be a nightmare and deeply harmful because human sex is complicated and people cannot (and should not) be forcibly categorized through sex testing.
christ if that’s not a metaphor for our times
there’s a great episode of The X-Files where a man tells the story of being intimidated by two mysterious figures he describes as looking incredibly like Jesse Ventura and Alex Trebek. these two individuals are then played by Jesse Ventura and Alex Trebek
Name your fav film cameo by someone portraying themselves.
