There is a lot to say about the Nolan Odyssey movie. But one point that I think has not been emphasized enough is: this is a film about living in LA, as Nolan, my erstwhile British compatriot and age mate, has done for years. I gather it’s a strange place.

among the funny things about the chud response to Odyssey is a sudden valorization of Troy, the Brad Pitt one, a movie that costar Peter O’Toole famously hated. Don’t get me wrong, I have fun with that flick, but it’s … bad. Loaded with laugh out loud dialogue. Pitt’s awful accent. Etc etc
in my barely educated analysis, given the way this flyover was set up, it was supposed to be the classic “sneak pass” that they do to surprise the crowd. That’s meant to be 500+ feet away from the crowd. Pilot was banking away from the beach. Being over people looks like a mistake.
